I'd ditch the new shoes at least for a while too Brunski.

Yep new (to me) shoes will be ditched, ease back the pace/intensity, keep as flat as I can. There's not much flat around here but loops will be my friend. I'm going to try and keep most of mileage but pull runs if they get uncomfortable. |

Sounds like a sensible plan Brunski.

I'm always dubious about mileage claims on used shoes. I got some vaporflys from vinted and the person claimed they'd only used them on the treadmill (which I found odd). Condition wise they look pretty new but certainly don't have the bounce of my pair I purchased new

Why does a cut back week always feel tough. Took my first rest day of the year on Monday and have felt rubbish all week. Must be a good sign that the mini taper for Cambridge half is working right?

I was just thinking the same Chris - I did a 16 mile with 12 at MP on Sunday and since then on my cutback week have felt awful! After the last cutback week though everything was great again the week after so fingers crossed for that!

Daz Love rhb - I have a great example of how not to do it although was never a sub 3 attempt fetcheveryone.com/t-13702852 Was running at around 91/92% of Max HR 2 from miles 4-22, pace slowed slightly at miles 19/20/21 until mile 22 when it stopped!! Walked the last 5k! That's pretty brutal. D'ya reckon staying in 'yellow' to 10 miles would've left enough to get you to the end without falling apart? Thanks Miser for your graph too. Might be intersting excercise for fetcheveryone to offer browsing of anomymised hr & pace graphs for user pb's over various popular race distances. Could help show trends in effort vs pb maybe? |

Today's 20miler session 3 efforts 3,3,4 miles ideally at mp +10s, with 1 mile recovery between. HR sits in yellow for these efforts but I feel it is too high from the start so not going to be that sustainable graph previously discussed if I go out at this pace/effort. Heavy (relative to me) week so tiredish legs but conditions perfect (Trafford 10km results is pb central on strava) But... consolidation, taper, 'super shoes' may all have a net positive effect. Thinking is still to go for it as the prospect of not doing so and that 'what if' being on my mind the whole way round is worse than going for it and failing. Next weekend brings the 10 into one block within the run and if it is dry in the week I may test run the super shoes then use for long run so will have a fresh idea/doubt around what is possible after then. I hope everyone else has made the most of ideal conditions today & is on target still. |
