I'm currently using boston 12s. I was thinking about a super shoe for my marathon but would it make much of a difference to a boston 12?

it's not an absolute shoe in that you'll respond well to super shoes but the reality is that the vast majority of us have benefitted from them over the last 5 years (or more!). There's now a massive range to choose from, it's not like the early days when it was Nike only. There is a thread to discuss if you wanted even more insight / input / advice on everyone's favourites fetcheveryone.com/forum/the-vaporfly-thread-60619/ |

I train and race in Adidas Bostons. Loved the Boston 9 which were great for faster-paced stuff but then in the truest traditions of major shoe manufacturers, they ruined it by releasing the 10 which was a complete design change. I didn't get on with them (too stiff and clompy), so I never went back to try 11 or 12. However, I raced New York in Adidas Adios Pro 3 and can definitely recommend these. They're not as outrageously priced as the new AF or VF but are lightweight springy and responsive. |

I tried the Nike when they came out but they didn't fit my foot - or probably more likely aren't made for people who use orthotics. I have so many issues to manage it's not worth the risk of changing shoes. I did try the Adizero once but wouldn't use those for anything over 10k. UB - I know what you mean. When they first changed them I felt like Bambi on ice but became used to them - the new ones are lighter again and the only issues I've had a strange bits of bruising on my foot. Not from laces but almost from the tongue though it doesn't feel as if it should be able to cause it. |

There may be more lower (than max) stack racing supershoes coming out. The ASICS Magic Speed 2 is one. ASICS Metaspeed Sky/ Edge are supposed to be more stable at max stack heights. SC Pacer is another option (newer version has more stack I believe though). I'm trying the Takumi Sen 9 over on the thread that WW linked. Had a scare last week where it aggravated a niggle I had. Still working out whether it will become a race shoe for me. The new Boston 12 is a training orientated supershoe as I understand it. Obviously not a marathoner but the lower stacked supershoes generally still have more stack than older marathoners so may be worth considering for those that are concerned about max stack stability (I certainly am). |

Metaspeed Edge+ is head and shoulders above Magic Speed on first impressions.

The MS3 is apparently a good step up from the previous two versions. It's not one I really looked at as a lower stack racing option myself though as ASICS haven't really pushed it so makes sense that the Metaspeed shoes are better.

Ah, makes me nostalgic for those simpler days when many of us ran marathons in racing flats. One of my favourite shoes was the old Adizero LT which guided me round Frankfurt 2010 in 2.41. Admittedly, I struggled to walk a straight line for days afterwards which is where the new supershoes definitely help. |

I used to race in adios adizero boost which were a bit thinner-soled than the Boston shoe. It always felt like a bit of a gamble but worked out ok. In fact my most recent pair of those is doing treadmill duty, at least it would be if the treadmill wasn't out of action.
