Thanks for the welcomes etc 🙂
jda - re running in the dark and rain - I live in the Lakes, so that’s pretty much every run for me!
Chris - yes I ran that at London. I get what you mean re the course, but I’ve had my quickest 2 Marathons ever at London (and 4 out of my quickest 5). So I tend to go well there. I really enjoy the weekend actually - it’s a proper highlight of the year for me, catching up with mates I only see once a year etc. I was actually really pleased with my run last year. I ran well, paced it well etc and I couldn’t have done any more on the day. If I can do that then I tend to be pretty happy with my time, even if you sometimes rue a few seconds outside an A target or whatever.
Anyway, I managed to do 14 tonight after work (in the dark and rain!) Pleased with that cos I really had to properly drag myself out (very nearly zeroed). So pleased to have got it done.

Looks like I've got the joy of a dark and wet run tonight too, yay! We are quite lucky around here that we don't get too much flooding.
Been reading the faster road racing book I got for Christmas and some interesting bits on lactate threshold running that I'll be trying out this winter. I've probably been guilty of running efforts too fast in the past.

A much more comfortable (and faster) sixteen miles this morning. Only thwarted by flooding once but it was much colder.

Snap! A nice 16 for me this morning too.
Hopefully the water will start to recede now so you can venture a bit further, just a shame it’s a bit cooler now

Well done gang. Up and at them for 20 this morning for me and an encouraging 18:13 at Parkrun yesterday. Floods finally receding in York, it's been really bad here. Biggest week of the plan coming up...

Oh well done all! 25km on the tready for me, with the combination of frosty road and cold air in lungs I didn’t want to risk too much. Felt pretty comfortable and I’ll be back on training plan this week.
Also did the club handicap (XC/fell) on Saturday, felt ok but pretty slow.

Top work everyone - lovely day for it!
I travelled down to Exeter today for a 10k - much more evenly paced, but basically the same result: 35:21.
Lots of pivots and narrow, congested bits, but mainly need to accept I’m not in sub-35 shape and use it to fuel marathon training - which kicks off next week!

I don't run anymore and was never close to a 3hr marathon but the best thing I ever did for running gains was HR training. If is good enough for Kipchoge who runs majority of his training miles at around 11mm pace...

Morning all, I hope everyone had a good weekend!
Chris/LMH - well done on the 16s. Building nicely!
Ditto jda - 25k on a treddy is epic! Not sure how yoyu manage that but bank some 'mentally strong' points there for when race day comes!
matty - cracking LSR and a great parkrun. That's a really solid weekend of training there, well done!
Miser - still a great run by the sounds. And who knows? Slightly quicker course, a bit less congested etc might well see you dip into the 34s, although that doesn't really sound like a priority now!
+1 for HR based training as well. Although (I'm guessing?) Chris might be talking about doing reps/sessions at a slightly lower intensity (so a bit slower but also a lower HR?) That was one thing I took from the Marathon plans in Daniels' book - I was often doing reps etc a bit too quick (if you properly used the VDOT reading).
Finding the weather a real challenge here at the mo. The temperature really. It didn't get above 0C all day yesterday, and according to Met Office the 'feel like' temp was -8 this morn. I had a challenging icy run Saturday which I was glad to survive not falling over! Yesterday was even worse. Quite considerably actually. It was just sheet ice for huge parts of my planned route. I eventually binned it off after about 6 miles (which included a fair few walking bits to get across the ice). Went home, did a few jobs there and then got out for another 10 later on. There's a 2.3 mile loop around the village (the 'main' road) which gets gritted. So I ran 4 loops of that with a short out and back to make it 10. As much as I could fit in due to time restraints. So a compromised 16 of sorts for the day, but it'll have to do. 73 for the week, so not losing too much sleep about a slightly botched LSR.

Lots of mental strength required to do that LS21. Well done.
