So even the seasoned marathoners suffer from the taper madness
It's truly a hassle, and wreaks havoc on our minds. I'm interested of how it will make me feel next time, it's always something strange happening.

I can say these things now LMH but give it a couple of weeks and I'll be panicking that I've lost all fitness!

I always think I'm doing too much in my tapers - last year I skipped my last Sunday run because I felt a twinge in my hip - but that could have been all in my head. I dont think there is any one correct way to do a taper.

I know that runs in the taper are for my head rather than my legs but I still feel bad if I don't get them done. Most important for me really is a couple of miles the day before teh race as my legs aren't good the day after a rest day.

I have the same problem the day after a rest day, let’s just feel sluggish.
Now I know why you weren’t happy about the weather, I’ve got efforts planned today which will be fun in the wind

Thanks folks - JDA I completely agree - not the time for rush of blood to the head.
I’d made a habit of under training and under fuelling for marathons and need to see it as a journey and learning curve. A second controlled marathon, going well (hopefully) while improving my time would be worth far more than another limp over the line!
My taper is coming alongside a really busy period of work, so while extra stressed, my body should be at least reasonably fresh. Keeps the mind free from taper madness at least! Definitely believe less is better for the last 2 weeks of taper!

Also - 8 laps LMH! Proper test of marathon focus. Can’t imagine doing that, although hopefully they’re small enough to fly by?

I'm not great in 40mph winds Chris. Fortunately made it out early enough this morning to miss the worst of it. Have a tactical rest day to play tomorrow or Thursday depending on the forecast!
Miser - 5k laps but it's not bad. Loads of people on the course because of the different distances, marshals usually mega loud and supportive and some entertainment at some point on the course. To be honest if I'm trying for a time I don't usually have much capacity fro admiring the scenery anyway. Busy week at work for me this week too - we are even more understaffed than usual and all the patients still need seeing/contacting. Doesn't look as though the situation is going to improve any time soon either. Good old NHS.
