My god it starting to get closer. Getting reminded when you guys talk about your plans and expectations for your upcoming events. :)

2:59:xx Seems a bit far away still...
But the next few weeks will tell if i have some speed in my legs for an effort like that.
And the feeling and outer circumstances on the day, is just something i can prepare for and hope that it works out :)

Feeling ok now though :)

Lots of time Chris, I ran 2:40 off two 1:19 halfs last year. Conversion is very individual, depends if the person is better at the longer or shorter stuff. The other aspect of course is which half you are comparing it to - was it in the middle of hard training, did you do a proper taper, etc, etc.

I'm always amazed how much fresher I feel after a good 3 week taper.

I could do with some advice damo - apart from when I first started running marathons I’ve always just tapered for two weeks and I’m a bit lost as to what a three week taper should look like. I’ve probably not started well with 20 yesterday and 14 today. LOL.

Chris
I’ve got plenty of excuses for a slower half time but I’m trying to to use them.

York isn’t particularly flat so I think I’ll have to use the next few weeks to run as many hills as I can! Either that or go for dorney 🤔

I didn't find York hilly apart from the very annoying one near the end - and I'm a confirmed flatlander - but it definitely wasn't the fastest of courses with the cobbles and turns.

Can't believe we are having such lovely weather now I'm supposed to be tapering!

I must be more of a flat lander than you LMH, I certainly found York a little undulating. Do you run very early? The humidity in the early morning is horrible at the moment but by midday seems a lot better.

LMH, pretty sure I am not qualified to offer anyone advice, I just find a longer taper works for me. For me, I typically do two proper runs a week, LR on Sunday, speed session on a Wed (3k wu&cd, + speed). Sun, 3 weeks out, last proper LR at good pace or big MP effort, after that my taper starts. Then each week after that is 25% (ish) less distance, and 25% less intensity, than the week before.

I do have to say that I am at the high end of the half to marathon conversion table, but I think thats because I'm mono paced - for about 5 years my MP, half, 10k and 5k pace were only 10-15secs apart.

Thanks Damo. It was mainly how much to reduce mileage by this week that I was struggling with. I convert well too but I think that's probably because I never optimised any speed I may have had. :-)

So, this tapering thing then. I'm finding it more difficult than usual, probably because I'm coming at it from such a low mileage base and trying (but mostly failing) to taper for three weeks. Last week was my highest mileage of the year at 76m but despite only doing 6 this morning I've run 68 miles this week. My 'plan' was to do a last MLR tomorrow (14 miles) but then that won't leave me many more miles for the rest of the week if I aim to just do 50% of peak mileage. When I was training properly I'd usually do my last LSR two weeks out so this does feel very much like cutting back. Strangely despite no noticeable decrease in my mileage my pace has been better this week. Not sure if I've mentioned before how much I dislike tapering? LOL.

Any thoughts?
