Hi LMH, I'm 46. I started running about 8 years ago. Had a 3 or 4 good years, followed by an injury hit few years, but last 2 or 3 have had big highs (PBs at 5k, 10k and Marathon last year) but 6mts out with two liagments tears the previous year.

Thanks damo. A decade younger than me - plenty of time for further improvement!

Mixed feelings today after finishing a local half in just under 1.17. Wasn’t quite feeling it in the middle but felt strong at the end and didn’t feel I’d given it 100% when I finished.
I was hoping it would give me the confidence for a sub 2.40 marathon but feels like 2.42 / 2.43 is more likely.
That said I’ll put my name in the hat for a 2.39 at York and see how it goes

There's time yet Chris.
I'm trying a three week taper before Bedford so this morning was my last LSR. I should probably leave the thread as all I want from Bedford is a GFA and I doubt very much I'll be troubling three hours at London should I get it unless I can find and follow some miraculous get older, run less and get faster plan. LOL.

Well done Chris, agree that 2:40 would be a good conversion from there but maybe not out of the question. Will be good to see another sub3 on the sidebar!
LMH, once a sub3 runner, always a sub3 runner

Thanks jda. I can't help but think of it as living on past glories.

Well, I think for a lot of us here, the older we get the better we were. There are still some with future glories to look forward to, and I'll enjoy watching their achievements. While I can still focus my ageing rheumy eyes...

Ok guys, I'll accept that I'm still allowed in, thank you.

Definitely in the better I were camp!
Always tough to estimate a race pace off a not sure if was 100% effort type race Chris. Do you have any other benchmark runs to tension against?
I'm in a similar boat trying to decide if 2:55 is workable. Ran a 22miler on Saturday, with 16m marathon pace. The first 5k (warm-up) were a bit quick, so it ended up being sort of 19m fast, but I was working much harder than I'd have hoped for the last couple of miles. Waiting for the half marathon in a couple of weeks to make a better decision.
