Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Feeling any brighter LMH?

Last 20 miler done today which is a great feeling. Tough one after running a relay event last night and then a 5am start but got it done!

Do I race a local 10 mile event next weekend 🤔

Nice one Chris.
With 2 weeks (Right?) after the 10k to your marathon, I can’t be that bad. More a good tapering effort to stay sane during the tapering weeks :)

RHR has gone up a little more Chris but pace is increasing so hopefully that means the fatigue is going. Just hope I'm not coming down with something! A 10 mile race two weeks out? Sounds just about perfect.

3 weeks today bowman. I’m normally a 2 week taper person so this week will only reduce the mileage a small amount. Just not sure how I’ll structure it if I do race on the Sunday.

A weeks still plenty of time LMH, just enjoy the madness of the taper.

10 miles is a bit further than 10k, so possibly a bit risky for 2 weeks out for a full effort if the marathon is the main goal.

Maybe first few miles at marathon pace then try to plough through the field?

Chippenham half for me today. 1:18:56 feeling very strong which is a lot better than I’d hoped for. Gives me confidence for a 2:55 effort in 3 weeks - but a new conundrum on whether to try for something faster…?

That's a good half Miser. As for targets, it's a risk/reward thing isn't it? Do you just want to nail the sub-3, is this your best shot for 2:50?

Knocking more than 5 mins off a previous PB (when that race wasn't a disaster itself) is a pretty big ask I'd say, for most people. And if you think of it as perhaps a 3 or 5 year project, small steps add up. I went from 2:59 to 2:47 over 5 years (and couldn't have done it sooner).

Good to hear Miser. I agree with jda.

Thunderstorms and hours of very heavy rain mean that I'm looking at an enforced rest day. I'm not sure I'd even be able to drive to the gym to run on the treadie as the road is almost certainly flooded. Mind you given how tired I feel after such a disturbed night it's probably not a bad thing. What's bothering me is that the forecast for tomorrow morning is equally pants and I was already worrying about how I'd fit a run in on Wednesday and Thursday due to work. It's looking as though it's going to be more of a rest than a taper this week.

Blimey - I really am struggling with the taper - walked the dog and had a word with myself and am just back from a four mile run. Forecast for the next two days is really pants - rain and high winds - but at least I got a few miles in today.

Mileage doesn't matter this week so 4 miles will do! Just keep those legs turning over for the weekend.

What is the marathon you're doing?

I know this Chris but I'm having trouble believing it! Looking at the weather forecast ticking over might be difficult but I'll do my best. I am running in the scenic and well supported Bedford Autodrome. LOL. Seems to be quite a large field looking at the entry list - 90 or so last time I checked. There are 20 mile, HM, 10k and 5k races too with staggered starts so always people around. Eight laps plus a short one for the marathon I think. I did it for a GFA a couple of years ago when it was earlier in the year but the weather was pretty foul. Hoping for an easier ride this time round. We delayed our holiday so that I could run it which is giving me a bit of extra pressure/stress.
