Sorry Miser I missed your post, have you managed to get the miles in this training block? If so I'd say a 2.50 should be doable but depends how cautious you want to be. Either that or I'm way over optimistic that I can convert a 1.16 half to a sub 2.40....

I would agree in principle with you Chris it’s just that with Miser having not quite done sub3 before it would be a terrible shame to run too hard and have the wheels come off in the last hour.
I suspect if he aims around 2:55 he’ll probably be drifting under that without much difficulty.

An interesting conversation on the taper. Just over 6 weeks to go for me until the NYC marathon but tapering is a period that I generally look forward to in schedules and for me the only time where I start to feel (somewhat) energetic again.
As the majority of my prep is banging out miles, the key sessions and that prolonged mental conditioning on learning to cope with continually tired legs, the old adages of 'the hay is in barn', '5% under is better than 1% over', 'can't increase base fitness in two weeks', etc are a shield I often use to ward off the fidgets and general anxiety.
Sadly it doesn't stop those odd pre-marathon dreams like getting lost on the course, late for the start, running through weird buildings, etc.

Are there any 2.50 runners who might be interested in a pacing role at a road marathon- looking at options for a 3 hour pacers as current guy not sure ?

Thats a fair point JDA, it would be annoying to go for a sub 2.50 and end up missing out on a sub 3.
My head wasn't in it today because of the wind but it turned out ok in the end. One of those strange days where you run in a straight line and at some points get a tail wind and others points its a headwind. Just tomorrows MLR and then taper time starts to kick in....oh happy days

I'd suggest aiming for the 2.50 Miser and pushing the pace in the last six miles if you're feeling good.
UB - I get the mega fatigue and the counting down the weeks until the taper, just one more LSR etc but basically I like running and I miss it when I can't. It's not that I feel I'm losing fitness but generally I enjoy just going out and bimbling whatever distance depending on how I feel and the weather, work etc.
Wish I were fast enough to help Foxy.

Thanks everyone. Much as I’d love to have a tilt at 2:50 I think I agree with JDA’s logic. Definitely don’t want to mess up and miss 3 hours again.
I really enjoyed running Brighton in the spring as a progressive run, taking time off in the final miles rather than falling apart. That was half paced for 3:10, so you never know - I might end up near 2:50 yet!

I've always found that being a little relaxed about it and running within well yourself for the first half at least is conducive to beating expectations Miser. Hoping you smash it.
No run this morning. My usual rest day as long day at work but I'm not too bothered given the forecast 40mph winds and heavy rain! Unfortunately I am on an all day training course tomorrow which is going to make fitting a little run in a challenge but where there's a will and all that. The dark mornings don't help. Bit of work stress as we're flying to Florida on Monday (delayed a couple of days for me to race) so I need to get all the loose ends tidied away today (I'm part time and not working Friday). If I get that done some of the stress might go though the weather is giving me nightmares. The circuit at Bedford is a bit exposed to say the least!

Thanks Chris. I'd like the wind to drop a bit more but it's not as though I can do anything about it and it's a better forecast than it was earlier this week. I've not felt so nervous before a race for years even though I've told myself that all I need is a comfortable run around 3.30 and it's job done.
