I decided on the start line to target 3:10 and thought I was being g sensible. Turns out I wasn’t. That was damn hard. But I finished in one piece without stoping.

My last London I think?
The crowds are amazing and I really appreciate that it was them that stopped me from pulling out at 20!
However, there is something about the course that makes me struggle?
That and the hot weather meant it was over at the start line......
Abingdon next year I think?

Great to meet Brunski, Fergus, Lee78 and PaulO at the start. Lost Brunski before the off, but managed to find him at about mile 10 and again at the end. I know it's not gone how we'd hoped, but that was tough! How the 4/5/6+ runners coped I don't know. Kudos to everyone in just getting round. Everyone's got a good base of training, so might be time to pick another event in the autumn and hope for cooler conditions??

Chris.
My hat is well and truly off to you.

Everyone else - seems like we were all in the same boat.

I'm actually less disappointed than I thought after having slide through all my categories of goals to just finishing. I was genuinely pleased to finish.

Went off hard and it did'nt work out. No regrets about that it was the risk i wanted to take. Some regrets about walk-running between 35-40km which cost me a sub 3, I think largely mental as I could still run well when I could. I'll blog properly later.

Paul. That’s me exactly. Although I reset my target I got to the point where I no longer cared and just wanted to finish. Ideally without walking or being sick. Both of which were delayed until after the finish.

How to handle running in heat is something we need to discuss in more depth once the dust has settled. Apart from Chris, the last 15k looked particularly horrible for most out there.

Will be interesting to read more from Chris. I agree running in those conditions were as hard as I have experienced. My dad reckons there was a wind as well. I didn’t notice. But then I didn’t notice much.

I felt I did all I could. WAter stcebery second stop roughly. Most over me and some in me. Also redetvexpectations on start line. Still a tough old end.

There was definitely a breeze at times, but I didn't notice it being constant. If anything, when I noticed it I found it helped with the heat more than creating resistance.

Postie you dodged a bullet missing this year! 😄

Looking at Chris’s time I have no doubt he will be Championship Entry level if the conditions are right at his next Marathon!👌🏻

Good to meet Brunski, Batmansdad, Fergus and PaulO today at the FGFA and run a couple of minutes with Jock Itch drinking a beer! 🍺

Great bunch of guys! 👍🏻

As for me, I will be sticking to one Marathon a year and hopefully it will be Abingdon!

The slow joggers aren't putting out the same power as the keener runners and may well be taking walking breaks anyway.

Best way to run in heat is to avoid it IMO. 2nd best way is to practice in it. Neither of which is really possible for most London entrants. Hat and water goes without saying of course.

Of course there's always weather risk when you are aiming for a time in a marathon. It does seem that the risk at London is a bit greater than many other events though. I'm sure Manchester is due a windy/stormy day but I said that before this year's race too.

Vienna was today too - I bet that was even worse than London. Forecast there was about 26C last time I checked.
