I also find Burkeman sensible and practical and am disappointed that his column has come to an end.

I also struggle to make a long term habit of even simple S&C, like doing sets of press-ups at work or spending half an hour doing sets of compound lifts in the garage at home. All I have to add, Pix, is that NOW is the time to do it, when you're a long way out from the event.

But you have to fit it in with a lot of time consuming endurance training don't you? There are only so many hours - you can't do EVERYTHING.

Is triathlon right for you?

I'm not much of a triathlete, Sharkie, I'm afraid.

Much betterer folks than I have spilled both real and virtual ink on how to fit all the necessary variety of training in.

It's a truism, but it needs to work for you. I started online boot camp because TeeBee was doing it and I got to see her for seconds on a screen twice a week. She's now gone back to real-life boot camp but I have stayed with virtual now the habit is ingrained. At 51, I seem to have got a bit better at remembering how good I feel after, and that gets me out of bed when I feel pants. And yes, massive benefits.

Grep will remember which one it is, but one of the triathlete books (Be Ironfit?) starts with looking at your week and finding the gaps - useful for any activity.
