Big G - I couldn't watch all of it either, just too long. I still have yesterday's athletics to watch too. Just as well I don't watch any football or tennis 🤣

WP - Back was OK during the night thanks. But it can be fine one day and not the next, but generally it is getting better, just slowly.

Shades glad the seagulls stayed away

Big G Still one of the list for me the Eden Project, like to coincide it with a parkrun or marathon. Hope your dad is okay and nothing too serious.

WP I managed to get a power nap in straight after breakfast.

Ian well done on managing your comeback following your injury.

Excellent day at the athletics yesterday, really good seats for the finish line. Great venue as you’re always close to the action. Not only had I ran on the morning, it was a core workout day part one was at the athletics sitting up and down every few mins at the kids next to me got up to try and get selfies and autographs of athletes, they were relentless!!! Don’t stop from the moment they got there.

Managed to watch the game in two pubs as I made my way closer to pick up my bag. Was always a tight rush but extra time didn’t help and resigned to get a train at 9pm instead of 7.30. Thankfully we scored early and decided to make a move but first had to down the two beers I’d just bought then try running down the road. Managed to pick up bag with the game on phone and trying to carrying 15kg bag (part 2 of the core workout) to the station. Made it with 5 mins to spare.

The weekend was a good one, but totally shattered, rest day today!

Rob, entry into Eden Project is free with parkrun for runners and spectators - I’ve only done it once, but it’s possibly my favourite parkrun of the ones I’ve done. Entrance is also included for Eden Session gigs (day of gig, and day after), and there is an Eden marathon where entrance is included too, for runners and spectators. For info though, if Eden Session gig is on a Saturday, the parkrun is cancelled I think, so best check that if you do come down for the parkrun as I think it is sometimes cancelled for other events too. I’ve just checked entry prices and it’s £38 (which lasts for 1 year, but not much good if you don’t live nearby), so free entry with parkrun is obviously a great deal!

Hi All. Been a while. Think you know what’s happened the last few months so won’t go into it at this stage. No taboos or anything but too heavy for a recap. I’m out the other side however and looking forward along with my girls. Running has been a constant and I’m up to 55mpw or so and I’m planning on running Berlin. I suppose some might find it weird that I’ve kept running up as much but I’m sure you all get it! My metrics and easy paces etc… tell me I’m the fittest I’ve ever been but the downside is some niggles and the risk of peaking too early as I’ve been doing weekly tempos for several weeks which is usually only something I do in the last couple of months of a build. My achilles is a bit dodgy and I’ve picked up what feels like a groin strain. Hoping they clear and I’ve stayed diligent on the strength work but not quite sure how to deal with the groin so need to check Dr Google. I’ve signed up to do Newport next April too as the in-laws are from there so it’s an easy one. Hope to be back on here more regularly now as things keep settling down.

Rcouture-Really good to hear from you mate.
I was looking at your mileage last week and couldn't remember what you had lined up.Try and get rid of those niggles now as you have 3 months left.
I ran 7 after work today, got myself a new pair of Invincibles(shades look away 🤣) and loved running in them, they'll be my longer run shoe now for thus cycle.

Rcouture, it’s really great to hear from you on here. It’s brilliant you’re back on the thread.

Exciting you’ve got marathon plans lined up too! Fingers crossed you stay on top of the injuries as well - you always seemed great with the exercises, strength work etc.

Rob: You are winning with the naps this week :) Sounds like a good day with lots of core work!

Rcouture: Sorry to hear you have and having a tough time but running seems to help as it does in trying circumstances.good luck with Berlin and Newport.

Ian:Sounds like a good run post work.

BG:That sounds a good deal with free entry for spectators along with runners. Also seems good value for the year if you are local.

PT today so no running.

Rob - sounds like a great weekend. Busy and tiring and you still managed a run and some core work. I watched the athletics and I was impressed with the kid's enthusiasm for getting autographs, but must have been annoying for you.

Rcouture - welcome to Fetch. So very good to have you back, I've been thinking about you and the girls. So impressed you've managed to keep up your mileage and are in great shape, apart from the niggles.

Groin injuries can be notoriously difficult to diagnose and can take a while to heal. it might be worth a trip to the physio. Is it the same side as the achilles niggle? Same side as the ITB?

I take it you didn't get into London, good you're running Berlin. I've entered Newport too for next year.

WP - enjoy your PT session.

6 miles for me, nice breeze today. Had a good run. I'll never get tired of saying how good I think my Reebok shoes are, a bargain too, think I paid less than £40 for them. Great cushioning and so comfy to run in.

Gym later

Shades - The groin is the same side as the ITB but the latter has been quiet a good while now. It barks at the start of runs then settles and seems to be improving very slowly so feels ok to carry on running on it.

I’ve also very much continued enjoying the invincibles which I’ve used today. My current rotation is invincibles, gel nimbus 25 which are the comfiest trainers I’ve ever had, superblasts for long runs, endorphin speeds for tempos and a light dusting of Mach 6/NB rebel 4 which are both incredible shoes but low drop which isn’t helping the achilles.

6 miles around the common this morning before a couple of meetings in town. I’ve been off work on leave officially since March but have started to gradually get back into things. Fortunately my job is quite self contained so I can ramp up slowly. The in-laws have lived with us since September and will be transitioning back to Wales gradually as the nanny starts properly in late October. Long story but she was the girls’ babysitter for years who I’ve managed to persuade take up a full time nanny role but she can only start after a Jehovah’s Witness pilgrimage in Mauritius of all places!

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon.

Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
