Ian - sounds promising about the shoulder and race conditions at HCA.

WP - you will be 100% more prepared for Cardiff than I will be for Dublin. I was only confident of getting to halfway at IOM marathon, and just getting round the second half. Since then I've had Covid twice, was struggling with any running after the first bout and ran no further than 6 miles. Can't see me bouncing back into training easily after this 2nd bout. Going to be very tough I think. 😭

However, I am starting to feel better this afternoon, at last.😀

I'll do another Covid test tomorrow afternoon. I have an appointment early Monday to have my hair cut and if I'm still positive tomorrow I'll postpone it so as to give my hairdresser plenty notice to reschedule her appointments.

Shades I was a race cancelled due to snow a DNS and the third time round they cancelled due to roadwork sfor Luton and the race never returned. Don’t think I missed too much. Hope you continue to feel better and test negative.

WP good news on the trains, I’m sure you’re more prepared for your half than I am for Stevenage.

Big G you’ve done well to keep going with the club work this year, well done for marshalling as well. I’ve got a loose plan to get to 14-16 miles as a slow run, just get some runs in where I can.

Ian not sure I’d want to do a track marathon. There is a local company that offer them at my local track.

Rest day today, another busy day at work and didn’t finish till late. I was threatening to go to the gym but didn’t happen. Taking mum out for lunch up London and monopoly game (life size game) will sneak a run in before

Rob - a couple of years of bad luck is enough for the Luton organisers to pack up and not hold the race again, even though it had a long history. I only ran it once and never intended to do it again. It was a popular race with some for getting a GFA time as cool conditions and a fairly fast course and was the last road marathon of the year and not much else around until the Spring on the roads.

If you get a 14-16 run done pre Stevenage that will do you well.

I am feeling better today, nowhere near 100% but head is clearing and RHR now declining to +1 above top of normal range.

Shades sounds like the road to recovery!

WP I rest sitting down at work, my days off are used to zap energy.

4.5 miles this morning, kept it short and cut it shorter whilst out. Off to Childhood museum to see my old toys and then lunch at spaghetti house in Goodge Street, the restaurant we went to on family trips to London as a kid, a good trip down memory lane today.

Rob, sounds a good plan. Enjoy London. I’m going up with a mate in a few weeks to see a band at Ally Pally, and hoping to do the parkrun there if possible. The gig is on the Friday night so parkrun will depend on if it’s a very late night or not!

I don’t usually do this as such a short trip from home, but I drove 1.5 miles to a car park today, and did 6.5 miles on the trails. They’re all trails I’ve done numerous times before, but doing this route from home would have added an extra 3 miles which I didn’t want today. Plan is to pick the mileage back up again next week after an easier week this week.

10 years since Claire died today. I’m okay, but 10 years is a long time on one hand but it seems to have gone very quickly on the other, and a lot has changed. I’m leading a totally different life now, basically. Seeing some widowed friends for lunch in Plymouth and going out with friends for food tonight locally. Parkrun tomorrow all being well.

(((Big G))) - hard to believe it's 10 years today since Claire died.

Rob - a day of childhood reminiscing for you.

Went for a short walk, no real improvement in ease of walking, aerobic wise, which was a bit disappointing. Still have no sense of smell either. Will do Covid test later on.

Covid test still positive but with a weaker T line.

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon.

Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
