A bit late getting going but 7 miles today. Sunny and clear skies, but a strong breeze made it quite hard going into the headwind.

Lots of sand and debris thrown up onto the road and path following the high tide. There was a chap in a motorised wheelchair on the seafront path, and was trying to get up onto the road. There was a guy trying to push him up, and I also offered to help, but he was stuck as there was too much sand on the short ramp up. He had to go half a mile back to the end of the seafront path, as there is a more gentle/longer ramp there.

Shades: Cardiff is two weeks Sunday but not holding my breath over it as no long run in three months.

It would be nice to try a track timed event ideally like a three hour one first but I doubt they would have any for that time.

Big G: Nice running.
OH has a electric wheelchair and had similar issues when he went out with friends.

Big G - sand on concrete is awful. Good he could go the longer way round.

WP - you'll still get round Cardiff OK, you've done plenty training this year and time to sneak a 10 miler in this weekend. You might not get a season's best but you should still be able to enjoy the event.

Doubt you'll ever find a 3 hour event, not feasible unless runners could complete marathon distance. There are plenty of challenge events (not on tartan track) and they are usually 6 or 7 hour time limits. But you can choose to run for 2 or 3 hours and then pull up and whatever distance you've covered in that time counts.

Shades : A glimmer of hope I will aim to run 10 miles Sunday and have an idea if feasible or not.If I can run 8 tomorrow will give me an idea as well.

Maybe look for one of those events next year.I have run 3 hours as long run took 2.45 when I started but was on ragged edge for Achilles so something to build on.

WP - you'll still be better prepared for Cardiff than I will be for Dublin. 🤣

Infinity Running used to do challenge/multi lap events in South Wales. I did 2 of them, lovely venues and would do them again but she's packed up for now and not sure if she'll start up again. I'm sure there must be others not too far from you.

Ian - good running today. Has the shoulder settled down?

You want it cool at HCA, so much easier to keep HR down.

WP - that's brilliant. I guess driving into Cardiff wouldn't be great with the amount of traffic a big race like Cardiff creates.

WP-There you go,you have to do it now.It is probably just as quick on train as car I'd imagine.
Shades-Its settled a bit,he said 48 hours to work properly so hoping for more improvement overnight.Temp is currently 12 at start with a high of 15,little windy so hoping that settles down.

Ian: that is good news with shoulder and your run.Good luck with weather watch :)

OH hates Cardiff and was dreading driving me as about 90 minutes from us or more.He really only drives short distances so this will suit him better.Long day for me.

Shades: I can not believe I will be better prepared than you for Dublin!

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon.

Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
