My grandmother had a meatsafe but not my parents nor me. I keep jam and marmalade in the fridge because I go for lower sugar/higher fruit types that need to be chilled. I therefore declare myself as proven young at heart.

I have a metal meat safe, unused sat in the garage taking up space, that came out of my Nan’s pantry. The chance of it being used ever again is quite slim, but I live in hope of moving to a house with a pantry one day.

Nana’s farmhouse had a kitchen with big pantry, a scullery with a big washing ‘copper’ and then the dairy.

The people who bought the house have turned it all into a big modern ‘kitchen diner/heart of the home’ because that’s the fashion and I shall spend forever wanting the much more useful traditional layout.

Somehow over the last few weeks the idea that my race tonight is 7km got lodged in my head. I checked yesterday, it's 10. That generous first lap cutoff doesn't seem so generous now!

Could be (fractionally) worse - you could have misremembered 7 km and it turned out to be 7 miles :)

I once ran part of a race with someone who recounted that he'd previously run a race with someone who was nonplussed at 6.5miles to discover it was a 10mile race not a 10km :)

Being nonplussed is definitely a minus!

TR, I stunned a fellow runner in the Connemarathon, a 39-mile ultra in Ireland, by having to tell him it was indeed 39 miles he had to run, and not 39 kilometres as he had thought. Never did find out if he finished.

Er... just been bragging on the 700 thread about reaching the magical 700 goal, including spectacular bin pics.

I reached 700km. The target is miles.

About This Thread

This morning I went to charge my kindle and instead found myself trying to charge my coffee mug. It was my third coffee of the day as well, clearly not strong enough!

=============

I was just drying my hair after a shower, I switched the hairdryer on and suddenly the bedroom was plunged into darkness, the hairdryer wasn't working either. Great, the electrics have just tripped out.

I find a torch, go to the fuse box but nothing has tripped - turns out I pressed the light switch instead of the hairdryer 'on' button.
