Riggsy - what a shock, sorry yo hear that. Hopefully it was a sudden thing for your fil. Well done on the 22s OO61 and DT DT - good one on the Malaga entry TT - that's a big DL, a one rep ? I reckon that would pop a bum cake if i tried that. Gerard - good job you didn't fall on thst ice. Spa sounds good, swimming takes some adapting too. I don't miss lunchtime swim sessions but miss the fitness..........the mountain I need to climb to get my running back to where it was in 2023 is getting higher...... Ouch - hope you qualify, although it sounds too long for me. LMH - even if temps are still 4 or 5 degrees its got to be a lot more bearable to run in for you. There's another 10ish weeks of low temps, so don't go looking for spring yet. Bike commute and 10x3min on the turbo for me. I have physio again Thursday, don't think I'll try running before that, will probably wait til next weekend. |

Riggys.. much sympathy, that is awful news for your family. Sounds like you coped admirably in the first stages of bereavement. OO.. enjoy the taper, an A/G win would be a feather in your cap! TR.. good cross training. Yes I get the feeling that older runners take longer to get back to where they were. TT.. good weights session and encouraging to hear some of your strength is returning. Hope you enjoyed the race spectating, I'm planning to find a vantage point for the Brass Monkey on Sunday as our club have 15-20 runners entered. LMH.. nice work on the 10m. It was supposedly warmer here but felt quite raw, also what ice was left was worse than the weekend. BTW my treadie has an adjustment for a firmer or softer ride, I lean towards the latter. Gerard.. crikey well done on staying upright, I'll be glad to see the back of this cold stuff. DT19.. good move entering Malaga, the two Spanish marathons that I've run remain my favourites. 5.5m easy today, successfully dodging a few remaining ice patches. Very impressed with the British runners at the Valencia 10k, our top 11 men were all between 27.35 - 28.35 and Rory Leonard broke Mo's 10k British road record. The first 10 British girls were all between 31.15 - 33.00 too. |

Wardi - 27.38 was a new British record, yet Alex Yee ran 28.07, imagine how goid he could be f he didn't mess about with hike and swim...........not sure if he'd get so close to the British mara record in London, lack of impact miles will probably kick in there.

TR - agreed re Yee. I follow him on Wardi - Leonard has been under most people’s radar for some time. Very good athlete. The Swede who won it ran 26:5x. Unbelievably quick. |

Evening all Firstly many thanks for all the kind comments they are all very much appreciated TR hope the cross training and physio will get you running again soon Nice long runs DT and OO61 OO hope the taper goes well and hope you get the qualification place. LMH nice ten miles hope the weather lets you get out to run in your days off. (You deserve it after the shifts you have put in) TT encouraging signs with the weights and the running. Nice staying upright skills Gerard Just 3 miles today trying to increase the frequency of running days up to 6 a week. After that will work on miles/intensity. Bit dodgy running up the slope to the pit top had to walk at times to find an ice free route (forgot the slope is great for sledging so had been compacted down and froze). Last week I ran 23 miles. Most miles in a week since end oct / beginning November. |

Condolences @riggys99 That must’ve been a nasty shock though I imagine your job means your more prepared than most of us would be. Good that you’re able to build the miles up again though. Tantalising prospect there @OuchOuch & certainly provides you with the motivation required to push on when it starts to hurt on AoA. Hope you’re not defeated by this latest setback @TR Patience is the only way through. Decent miles from everyone else. I also managed my biggest week since Marathon Eryri at the end of October: 33M including a disappointing 22:16 at Street parkrun. I ran it once over 5 years ago on a hot day in 21:50 with a hangover so I was hoping to better that but after a decent first K I slowed significantly. Probably the aftermath of some relatively heavy lifting in the gym last week & lack of breakfast. Back in the gym today so another zero but I did do my biggest deadlift ever: 90kg & I did 10 reps so there’s more to come. |

Thanks riggys. You seem to be heading in the right direction, hopefully firmly on the road to recovery now. TR - frustrating as it is I think waiting until after you've seen the physio again is a good idea. The positive temperatures are definitely welcome but I am so looking forward to training when everyone is complaining that it's too hot. ![]() My friend used to train in the tri club with Yee. Always said he was one to watch and what a nice young man he was. Forgot to answer you yesterday Gerard - a longer run at the minute should really be at least sixteen miles. Are you still feeling the after effects of Covid FJ? Think I'm going to delay the longer run until tomorrow as the weather is forecast to be better (though today should be a lot better than it has been) and I may not get a run in on Thursday because of my hand appointment. |

Decent mileage Gerard. Shame you didn't get a chance to push at parkrun. Bit surprised at you swim pace. I'm not fast, but even after a long break it doesn't seem to make much difference to my swim ability. 2000m swim yesterday, with plenty of breaks-the first since mid December. OO that's an ambitious target indeed. My best ever was 3rd M60 at London in 23. I've never managed higher at one of the Majors. Does the absence of GFA entrants outside of Japan affect the quality in Tokyo for Masters? Well, after the swim and some sprints last night, my knee is sore again. I'm wondering if the push off at each end of the pool may have aggregated it. Glad you got a run in riggys- hope all goes OK. LMH, what is your hand issue? Good luck with the long run? @Forrest Jooligan I'm guessing you don't do many parkruns. I do them every week and practice really does make perfect. Good your building up mileage though 👍 |
