OO61 - could have been the sprints that annoyed your knee? I have Dupuytren's Contracture which is affecting my use of my right (dominant) hand. Long run officially postponed until tomorrow I think - it should be warmer and it will give the ice another day to clear.

LMH - Ah yes. I class =/>16 miles as a proper long run. Crikey, that op sounds like it could be a long recovery job. Will you get paid if you are off that long? I guess we are the kind of folk that get hooked on the perpetual training cycles of an endurance runner and are happy to commit to the time needed to do it and also, the setbacks that often happen. Some folk can't be dealing with it. Yes Yee was a talent from a young age. I love watching him race. Him and that kiwi young triathlete have had some epic battles. Excited to see if he can get himself in great shape for London. I did contemplate that re the blister but I had a good s7c workout yesterday and did my long run Sunday so the timing wasn't so bad. I was just a bit annoyed I had to slow down on my long run as I wanted to do some higher threshold stuff but it's fine. OO61 - The objective for parkrun on Saturday was a catch up with a pal I haven't seen in a while and run with him. He does very little training, so it was a very hard effort for him. I know you are passionate about parkrun I'm not fussed about it anymore, in fact, I tend to avoid it now as I don't like the fact they let blokes enter the F category. This whole thing about it not being a race too, blah blah is a total nonsense. Why publish times and places then? Anyway that's just my thoughts; I don't miss it and I prefer to do my own thing on a weekends. Re the swimming, it's not a pace thing, it's more the swim fitness. I hardly ever do proper swimming, only usually casually enjoy dips in eth sea etc but proper swimming feels hard for me right now. I will build up to 1,000m over the next few months. I'll be happy with that. Well done on your 2k swim. Have to try sneak a short easy run in after work as I have a gym induction at 18:30. Will probs only get 3 miles in. Won't do the blister any harm. |

Gerard - no, that's the worry, no sick pay. Recovery time will depend on which operation they decide is needed.

Haha DT. Usually watching a good muddy xc would get my juices flowing but it just all seemed a bit too much like hard work 😂 Gerard - Jr done well, ta. He was 65th overall, 12th U20, which he was happy with considering he is only just starting back himself (long illness and uni stuff). He only started taking a proper interest around 16, so there's plenty of time for your lad. Sounds like you're making good use of the spa! TR - yep, that's a 1RM, though I hadn't actively tried for one before. Bumcake was pretty close to going, but thanks to the power of double lycra layers and a well positioned belt, things just about held together! Lol No running sounds sensible for now. Are you noticing any improvement? Wardi - Valencia is just a fast course at all distances, isn't it! Impressive times. riggsy - good plan on rebuilding the frequency. LMH - that sounds like it could be incredibly uncomfortable! Hopefully it will be the 2 week option! Horrible insomnia last night. Struggled to get off, woke up at 4:30, and couldn't get back, so ended up going out for 2m at 6:30 before some back weights (chest last night), and a decent dog walk. |

OO61 wrote: @Forrest Jooligan I'm guessing you don't do many parkruns. I do them every week and practice really does make perfect. Good your building up mileage though 👍 🤣🤣 That was my 591st @OO61 at 199 different venues. I wouldn't choose Street parkrun for any reason other than because it was quickest to get to & has free parking. Course is pretty dull: 3 grass laps of 2 playing fields with a short bit of gravel path connecting them, hence not revisiting it for over 5 years. 🤞 the operation sorts you out without bankrupting you @Little Miss Happy Surprised you can't get any sick pay though. My mate's an HCA and had to have cataracts done on both eyes last year. He was out for 6 months and managed to get some half-decent sick pay for most of that time. Insomnia is a curse I suffer with too @TippTop Sounds like you made the next best use of your time though. Legs not too bad today after 5 minutes hard spinning on the gym bike then 30 minutes of yoga first thing. Got out at lunch for a 3.3M Fartlek at lunch. Hopefully get another short recovery run in after work. |

No sick pay when you work on the bank FJ - nor holiday pay.

Apologies @Forrest Jooligan I defo got the wrong end of the stick there. I also don't like parkruns with too much grass and don't like multi lappers either, and now understand your slowish time on a tricky course. Gerard I'm with you on the gender and Stats issues for parkrun. However, these are issues with HQ who have lost the plot in my view. I see parkrun in terms of the local grass roots events, volunteers and community, and this keeps me engaged. I know you are restricted in parkrun locations, unlike me Forrest who have many tourist options. This adds a whole new dynamicto enjoyment of parkrun. Good on your pal by the way for his intent 👍 LMH I asked the question because I also suffer from DC. Two ops. on one hand, pending assessment on the other. Hope yours is not as severe as mine.... Regarding the knee I think pushing off the wall during the swim caused the sensitivity, then the tempo efforts made it worse. I shall be a lot more careful when I swim on Friday. Interesting that recent improvements came over Christmas when I wasn't swimming. |

DT - Malaga, especially its centre is very compact walkable city, so anywhere central would be fine as would be close to the race start/ finish, the sights, beaches and marina. TT - You and me this morning. I woke at 4.15 am, to go to the loo, started thinking too much combined with the dog snoring, so went out for an hour at 6.07. Surprisingly calming running in the morning dark vs the evening dark. 0061 - When swimming, I find pushing off the wall can be surprisingly violent and painful for the knee, the right in particular. Gerard - Interesting re: Yee, some athlete. Forrest - Some park run record, do you have the 200th venue in mind? TR - Plenty of muscle memory in your legs, just clear this injury. I was over-optimistic about the AG place, the official word is its only applicable in their World Final events not World events, so only the top 3 to qualify automatically. So, will go back to Option 1 and use the race as a good long run, complete it and get the 2 running stones which gives you two chances in the ballot for a place in the main OCC race. I did get 3rd in the 55-59 AG in 2022 to be presented on the podium with the special Alpine bell prize. |

LMH - there might be a way to get some sick pay, you must pay in one way or another. OO61 - I assume you mean swim sprints the day after a 20 miler? Pushing off the wall seems pretty low key? TT - you sound like you are getting healthier. Still decent as a 1RM. Good to see jooligan on the way back up too. More bike commute and turbo here (4×8min). I'd really like to get running again next week, which would mean two missed weeks, so I'm hoping my best chance of getting running next week is to not try to run at all this week. |
