For anyone interested in an update re the gout diagnosis, see below ..
OO61 - I don't think the gout will mean giving up on anything as I'm sure I'll be able to 'manage' it. Hope you recovered from your run and swim - weren't tempted to go for a bike ride then and call it a triathlon?
Hillstrider - well done re that 10k run with pyramids. Shame you've not managed to get anywhere with the doctor's re the cause of the indigestion. Enjoy your pub lunch tomorrow - and 'Happy Birthday' (assuming it's not already been and gone and this lunch is post-birthday). Always good to be able to have a beer and really celebrate.
Aquarius - sorry, had a chuckle at your lack of sympathy because Steve eats so much rubbish! I'd tend to agree that the race volunteers don't get enough recognition. Hope those sore knees soon recover - anyway, well done for going out and doing 7mls despite the soreness. Hope that planned trail run at the weekend goes well.
I eventually got hold of the doctor. My uric acid level (that causes gout) is slightly higher than they would wish. My hunch is my foot problems are down to my dodgy toe joints AND the gout, so I've decided to go on the medication for a few months. It's not just too much alcohol that causes gout - the doctor said anyone, even non-drinkers, can get it. But one thing that can cause gout is being dehydrated. Margaret is always telling me I don't drink enough water - so she felt vindicated by that comment from the doctor.
Staying at the Premier Inn in Tring tonight as it was £20 cheaper than the Holiday Inn in Aylesbury. I'd booked a table for 6:30pm but as I was peckish, went to the Beefeater and they weren't at all busy so could fit me in straight away. And because it was before 5pm, I was able to eat something off the 'Daytime' menu, which is cheaper than the 'Main' one. Smaller portions off the daytime menu - which to be honest, is probably a blessing in disguise!

My family are always telling me to drink more water but I don't find it easy. Tea (and beer) taste much better. Happy birthday hillstrider.

Hope storm Darragh isn't casing anyone any problems, take care if you are venturing out this weekend. Good idea to give the medication a chance to help WtnMel. I must admit I didn't realise dehydration could be a cause of gout. Hope your birthday meal went well HS and you had a good day. Just listened to your podcast 0061, did I really hear that your mileage can get up to 65 miles a week? All very impressive.

Haha yes but usually only for a week, or 2 at the most. This year I'll reach c2400 miles. We made it to rising sun parkrun before the storm

WtnMel, thanks, my birthday was yesterday and we had a very nice pub lunch. I think that the capsules might be working, so hopefully, when I see the Dr again on December 19th, I will be able to stop taking them.
That's interesting that being dehydrated can cause gout.
That's a good tactic, eating before 5pm to choose from the cheaper day time menu.
Thanks 00, I had a good day. Lucky that you were able to get to the rising sun parkrun before the storm.
Aquarius, all the local parkruns were cancelled today because of the gale force winds. As an alternative, Mike and I went for a 3.68 miles road run. It was great with a tail wind, but hellish into a headwind.
Thanks, the birthday meal went well. My sister and I ordered chilli concarne with chips instead of rice. The meals were delivered with rice 🍚 I advised that we had ordered chips, not rice. There was no problem as they came back with bowls of chips 🍟. We, therefore had chilli concarne, rice and chips, so a win win situation 😋

HS I think most of our parkruns were cancelled too. Well done for managing to get out for a road run with Mike, I don't envy you that headwind on the return leg. A bit of luck getting rice and chips with your chilli con carne, they must have known it was your birthday
0061 2400 miles in a year? Wow that's amazing, I'll probably manage just over 600.
I gave the trail training session a miss on Sunday because of the weather. It was raining quite heavily and was very windy. I don't know if the session went ahead but I didn't fancy 5-7 miles of interval training fighting against the wind. Instead I did a hilly 8.5 miles this morning, in much better weather, no wind or rain and not too cold. Perfect for running.

Aquarius, thanks. Yes we were lucky getting the rice and chips 🍟
You were wise giving Sundays trail running session a miss, due to adverse weather conditions.
Well done for this mornings hilly 8.5 miles.
I ran a solo hilly 5k this morning on roads, wearing my new Asics 1000 v13 for the first time. It was my quickest on that route for several years.
