Fed up with my feet! The right one having sorted itself out, the left toe joint now giving me problems. We were visiting my Mum yesterday and stayed at the Holiday Inn in Aylesbury last night. I swam 40 lengths (15m pool) and my foot felt better afterwards. But it's stiff again this morning.

We have booked a week in York starting on Thu, but at present, may have to cancel if my left foot doesn't improve over the next day or so. I can cancel the hotel anytime before Wed. We had booked an afternoon tea at Betty's Tea Rooms for Margaret's birthday, so that may have to be cancelled as well (though hopefully, they will let us have a credit against a booking at a future date)

Well done WtnMel for your 40 lengths swim, albeit in a 15 metres pool.

Hopefully your left foot will improve, so that you won't have to cancel your holiday in York, or afternoon tea at Betty's Tea Rooms for Margaret's birthday.

This morning was a 5.33 miles forest run with Sarah H and Mike. We had intended running further, but they both started feeling "niggles" so we cut it short.

WtnMel Sorry to hear about your left foot, I'm not surprised these feet problems are starting to get you down. (Could it have anything to do with your new shoes?) With any luck your foot may be sufficiently improved for the York trip to go ahead.

HS A pity you had to cut your run short this morning. It comes to something when the "mature" member of the Monday running gang can keep going but the younger ones fall by the wayside. Maybe they should take a leaf out of your training manual :)

0061 I saw a photo of you on Facebook, as the second GNR runner to arrive at the Ferry. Did you run up there after the run had finished? I hope you didn't get too wet, I hear it was a rather soggy run this year.

Many congrats to Steve and happy anniversary to you both Aquarius. We did WB parkrun and similarly over 600 runners. I paced at 22 mins but ran 15 secs too fast getting a young woman to the finish- she was very grateful. A couple of other guys also thanked me so it felt very rewarding.

Great photo hillstrider you all look happy.
Wtnmel sorry to hear about your feet. Worse than most injuries because all mobility is hampered. Hope it does not spoil all your plans.
Yes GNR was and enjoyable day and my best half marathon time for a couple of years. I have a thing Aquarius, that I finish every year and immediately run for the ferry which is 1.5 miles away in South Shields. Most years I'm first to get on overtaking the few hundred runners who finish thevrace before me. But this year 2 runners (both of whom I know well) decided to take my crown. I was a bit crest fallen but still got a photo and a nice welcome from the ferry staff.

Aquarius, thanks, I try to keep going.

0061, well done for your 22 minute pace setting at the WB parkrun, and best half marathon time at the GNR for a couple of years.

The usual Tuesday Farmers Walk this morning.

0061 Congratulations for your best HM time for a couple of years, third runner to arrive at the ferry sounds good to me (first Poly member?), although I can understand your disappointment if you are normally the first one to get to the ferry. Great pacing at parkrun too, and nice for people to take the time to thank you for your effort.

HS I hope your visit to the supermarket today was less annoying, and the Farmers Walk back was in better weather than we've had. When I went out for my 5 mile run (another one on the Garmin plan) this morning it was raining and quite windy, but by the last mile it was blowing a gale and quite scary in places. There were so many leaves being blown down from the trees it looked like snow, it's a while since it's been that windy here. I'm hoping Thursday's run will be in calmer weather.

I've been sat around today, popping ibuprofen and using ice packs. The foot was really painful first thing, but has improved during the day. But we've decided to cancel our planned holiday to York, which would have involved plenty of walking. Better safe than sorry and no money lost by doing so.

Aquarius - I'm sure it's not the new shoes that have caused the problem. When I thought back, one of the exercises I do is a heel raise. That involves rising up on your toes. Even when wearing trainers, I'm sure that had the effect of straining the toe joint. So I'll drop that exercise from my routine. Should really have been aware that should have been a no-no, given my recent problems.

Am on my phone at present - will try and catch up properly tomorrow when I can get on my laptop.

WtnMel Yes, you could be right about the heel raises, when I do them my big toes crack alarmingly, and it's quite uncomfortable. Hopefully the ibuprofen and the ice packs will calm things down. So frustrating for you in the meantime, and such a shame about your planned trip to York.

What was the outcome of your taster session with the community choir?

The foot is better today, but still a bit swollen and tender, so another day of sitting around with my feet up beckons.

Aquarius - I enjoyed my first visit to the choir last week (had to miss last night's session) but felt a bit lost. I'm not used to reading sheet music which shows all 4 voice parts plus piano so kept losing where I should be reading. Also, I didn't know where to pitch my voice. I was with the basses, but their part is written in the bass clef, which is different to the more usual treble clef. But I've since found an explanation online which explains which notes are which on both clef, and where they meet. I may end up moving to the tenors but I'll have to practise to see what range of notes I can reach comfortably.

Aquarius, if anything, yesterday's shopping was even worse. Thankfully the store was fairly quiet, just after 8am, as I walked up and down all the isles twice.

Well done for yesterday's 5 miles in the wind and rain. Good luck with Thursdays run.

I don't have any problems with hill raises and do 20 every day.

WtnMel, I'm glad to hear that your foot is a bit better today, but a shame that you have had to cancel your holiday in York.

Good that you enjoyed your first visit to the choir, but it sounded quite complicated. Lucky that you have found an explanation on line as to which notes are which.

This morning was 6.45 miles with the Wednesday Group, including 5 x 800 metres with 90 seconds recoveries on the forest 800 metres course.
