Maybe try a training run targeting 7 miles in under 1:40? That's equivalent pace to a 3:53 chip time finish.

I did 7.25m in 1:51 last week with a low HR on tired legs
So I'm hoping that with a taper and effort rather than "fun running" and "watching the flowers grow" (as Velociraptor would say) that all should be good

But that's one of my issues and always has been
I like running and zone out as it's me time
I very rarely put effort in!

Just imagine that someone is chasing after you with a pointy stick ;-) Or maybe that a dino is on your tail.

just checked Ness
you start at 9 me at 10:10
and
Chester Metric Marathon is a running event and for runners' safety the roads are closed by permission of the council. The race cut off time is 4 hours. Roads will re-open in line with this pace. If you fall behind this pace, for your own safety you may be asked to withdraw from the race.

Runners who do not reach Aldford Bridge (6.9 miles) by 12:00 will not be able to continue, for their own safety. This is a very busy road once reopened, and your safety is our priority.

6.9m in 1.50 is 14.38 pace
26.2km in 4hr is 14.45 pace

so you HAVE to do the first bit faster to finish. I can understand this given roads but pressure!!

You will be fine, Pix :) Keep training, stop wibbling. You can do ONE sub-14 minute mile, so the pace is there if you have the focus and endurance, and you're doing a decent volume of running so the time on feet won't be an issue.
