The worst three words in the English language are "I used to"

Indeed so. My running log goes back 20 years and I dare not compare what I do now to what used to be.

Anyhoo ... 8.6 miles easy 30:30 plod with the Gymboss this morning, mostly off-road along the estuary and the river. Warm sunshine here, quite a stiff breeze, an agreeable enough run. Came out as 12:50 m/m, which I'm pleased with.

A better run - 5k tonight. No planned ratio, just run/walk to feel. Iā€™ve been ā€˜persuadedā€™ to do a half marathon on Sunday which Iā€™m planning to do at 30:30 with no time expectations, just to go and enjoy it.

Even worse Muttley when log books go back 44 years! Arghhh. You're clearly on the up with your miles and you know how to keep the momentum without spoiling it all.
Oooh..a half marathon out of the blue lin50! Quite exciting, hope you enjoy it and it'll be good to hear how the 30/30 works out.
Such an individual decision EvilPixie! All my PB times many years ago were done on "feel". There were no fancy gizmos in those days! There were very basic stop watches and I used to cover the face of mine so that I'd only see it once stopped at the finish.Trouble with running to time is that you can become deflated if you're behind schedule! And if you're doing faster than you planned then the brain starts thinking either about a pb or a good time...or worrying about whether you can sustain it!

Another 5k today doing 20/30. Plodding along happily.

Exactly Steve!
Plus I was reading up ... the total race cut off is 4hrs but you also need to be past 6.9m by 1hr 50 which makes me think I need to go out a bit faster and fade! (possibly fade should I say!)

Pix, I think your arithmetic may be slightly out. If someone took 1:50 to cover 11.1 km, I think it would be unlikely that they would cover the remaining 15.1 km in 2:10. Just beating the interim cut-off (allowing a couple of minutes to cross the line) and keeping even-paced would give around a 4:15 finish. To get under 4 hours on the race clock needs an average of 9:05/km, 14:35 mile, I reckon.

oh arse better hurry up!
The race cut off is 4hrs
I think it starts at 10.10 and you have to be at X location by 12 which is 6.9m in
I'm sure a taper will get me there! Eck

I've been using a variety of ratios in my run/walks: 50/40s, 55/45, 60/45, 65/55, 80/55, 90/60, 1:45/0:45, 2:00/0:45, 2:15/0:45, over the last two months. Used for different purposes, so I can't say if I find any particular one definitively better.

I sometimes do a run to HR as my legs forget how to run without breaks! so swapping is probably a good thing
I forgot that I had moved back to 30:30 this morning and was very pleased at how quick and effortless 60:30 felt until I noticed!

I think it started at 10 when I did it, Pix.
