Thank goodness it was all run Pam or I'd be getting more disheartened😂. Good overall park run Dvorak. Keep with it Muttley! Yeah, I wouldn't be without my gym boss currently. What a fabulous outing lin50 with varied ratios. You're doing more "run"than I can right now Columba. I did 5miles at 30/30 this morning and merely maintaining a level of health. I was amazed at watching the 5k race walk in the British Athletics Championships yesterday when Tom Bosworth won the WALK (!) ...5k in 20 minutes 10 seconds!!! I'll have to try that walking style!! |

I got overtaken by a race walker in a half marathon once, many years ago, Wokingham if memory serves. Never saw the guy again and I finished in about 1 hr 45 so he either beat that or DNF'd.

I was overtaken once by a power walker; she'd been using me as a pacemaker for most of the 10 mile race (yes, I could cope with 10 miles in those days) and overtook me in the last mile. I tried to speed up but didn't have enough oomph left. steve45 I am painfully, painfully slow, though. |

I'm fine with being overtaken by race walkers - given that there's a handful of them have walked sub-3 marathons...

Not wishing to denigrate it but I've never really understood the point of race walking. To my untrained eye the contortions the walkers go through seem quite unnatural. If you want to get from A to B on foot as fast as you can why not, erm, run? I'm sure it has its fans but I just don't get it! And I tip my hat to those who can walk the distance faster than most can run it. |

Worth noting though Muttley that injuries amongst race walkers are almost unheard of! Apparently it puts far less "pound strain" on the legs and hips. I would suspect that most decent race walkers could run pretty fast too! I agree that it does seem/appear to be a bit unnatural, some years ago when I had a running injury I tried it on the trails (😂 wouldn't want to do it in full view!! on the street!) and my pace was pretty good I thought! My run/walk this morning was disappointing; I thought I was on for a best time on a familiar route but not to be! |

That makes sense about injuries. While I was on the bench the physio said that when we run we load the calf to about 8-10 times body weight. So it can be prone to strains, esp as we grow older. I guess that if you're walking and having to keep one foot in contact on the ground that applies less, if at all. Still not tempted to try though Another gentle 30:30 session this morning, only 15 minutes or so but we start small and work up. |

I made a mistake about Tom Bosworth...his 5k race walk time was 19.50!! The fastest woman, Beth Davies did 22.30! So, back to MY run/walks... continuing with 30/30 and mulling over what's the next best ratio to go to. Have got possibly over comfortable with 30/30 but still very conscious of HR and waiting to see cardiologist. |

I did a 40/30 which gave me a slower overall four mile time today....but I'm reckoning I slacked on the walk bits!

St. Jeff reckons you can't walk too slowly.
