On a training ride in Spain, from Calp. Remco Evenepoel and Mathieu van der Poel. And daughter Sophie. Apparently Remco was quite chatty, van der Poel less so. She thinks they were impressed they could keep up and push them at points

I worked out the two in worlds/nationals jerseys, but not the other two alpecin riders. Quite a group to ride with.

Has anyone been watching much of the cyclocross? I’ve watched most of it over the festive period, and MvdP just seems unstoppable. Talk on the commentary was that as he’s moved to Spain for training recently, the warm weather and consistent training has been a springboard, along with his back issue having cleared up now.

He was involved in a spitting incident with the crowd yesterday though. A quick Google this morning and I don’t think he’s been sanctioned, and in his interview he just mentioned booing, but speculation online wondering if beer/urine was being thrown.

I've watched most of it, including going to Herentals and Namur to watch it track side. It almost feels like most other riders have given up trying to follow, especially as VdP is nowhere in the overall leagues so they'll focus on that instead. Pidcock has maybe looked like he could follow if he could sort his starts, but WVA has looked relatively out of sorts.

It looked like van Empel was going to be the same on the women's side, but she's showed some weakness recently, and Brand, Alvarado and Pieterse have all pushed (and occasionally overcome) her recently. Yesterday's Hulst was great.

Meanwhile the awful news that Melissa Hoskins has been killed by her husband Rohan Dennis in a driving incident, and he has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and several other offences. Utterly terrible.

I'm a bit shocked he was bailed (although why should I be surprised? The violence of men against women continues... )

Not great news for top level racing in the UK. Sweetspot enters administration cyclingweekly.com
