I'm only 500 places from last of over 18000 entries.

What happened with the crash after the finish, did remco go wrong or were people in the wrong place? The Eurosports/Quest highlights package is so awful, I couldn't tell what happened. |

He came through the finish quite fast, there wasn’t much room and there were people across the road before a barrier. He crashed into a woman and somersaulted into a barrier. He didn’t appear to brake, but usually they have much more distance to slow down. |

I think the speed of his sprint plus the thumping of the chest and celebration gave him less reaction time but the finish area looked very congested without a clear path through for riders.

I've not seen it but riders usually celebrate wins and they are expected to go full gas to the line so that suggests the helpers were too close.

The woman he hit also wasn't paying any attention to where riders would be approaching from although from the footage it was a big group in a tiny space so she may have had crowd safety thoughts

I think they were supposed go right, but the usual post-finish line option is for riders to rider through the melee and beyond. The barrier at the end was the biggest issue to be honest.

I bet the cycling soigneur was doing what she has done 100 times before, the area after the line was too small and that barrier, well....... The organisers are to blame not Remco or the poor girl who got hit. |

twitter.com Shows a heli view of it. Definitely bad planning, but looks like plenty of time to stop too if he'd been paying a touch more attention, but I'd guess the UCI don't want to stop riders celebrating when they win. I believe there's also consternation over the fact that Remco and others were heli'd off the mountain too to avoid traffic congestion. |

UCI don't organise the vuelta. I believe it's still ASO.
