It's fairly straightforward I think (in my extremely basic understanding of US electoral law) - at this stage, his name would remain on the ballot If elected the vp would become the president and a new VP would have to be nominated and confirmed by the senate I would expect there to be significant noise around it all of course. |

We can criticise America's gun culture and violent political rhetoric but actually, haven't we had more politicians killed in UK than USA - David Amess and Jo Cox? Depends on how far you look back .... Two Kennedys spring to mind for example. Gabby Giffords was shot not too long ago, as was Steve Scaliase. I'm sure there are other examples too. |

Harvey Milk and George Moscone were another two famous examples. And do you count Dr King as a politician? The UK has it's fair share of political violence, but modern examples are pretty rare. Which is why they have been so shocking |

They did have Jan 6th as well... and the 1968 Democratic convention. It's not fanciful to suggest that this election will be worse, particularly if Trump loses. |

For the 1968 Democratic convention, we had the Brighton Hotel bombing. 5 deaths, including deputy chief whip Anthony Berry.

Meanwhile Starmer asking Meloni for advice about dealing with immigrants gets not a peep of comment.

I read about that yesterday and didn’t comment mainly as it’s the sort of thing I’d expect Starmer to do based on previous evidence
