They don't have to be racist bigots (at least not in the way Dave W is painting them) they just have to not care much about it. Good example of this is WNBA commissioner was asked about racism and bigotry aimed at players online the other day in a public interview and just mentioned more eyeballs, more money and sponsors etc. I may be wrong but I doubt the commissioner is a bigot that would actively do those things but it wasn't high on her list of priorities as someone unaffected. Clearly it should have been in a league full of players affected by it but then the commissioners job is really to make the franchises money. |

I still think she will win, but it isn't a slam dunk, which really it should be. If he loses, that's only the start of it. He won't be going away until he is either dead, demented or in jail. |

Surely there are high proportion of "holding their nose" conservative voters in US, who will vote for Trump, as the Republican party candidate. Socially conservative, possibly religious, free-market/business believers (a lot of these in USA - the country was built on business. Admittedly, the business was slavery, construction using slave labour, exploitation and theft of land and natural resources from indigenous inhabitants etc. but business nonetheless) etc. who will never vote for the "liberal" party representative. I think that would be a big proportion of the vote?

A lot of people are saying that whatever Trump and MAGA are about, it isn't conservatism. Trump will trash every traditional US conservative institution by discrediting it, corrupting it or reshaping it: Supreme Court DOJ The media The legal system The voting system The peaceful transfer of power The Constitution What he offers isn't "conservative" and any Republican who thinks it is needs to give their head a wobble. |

I said "social conservative" JB. What you are talking about is governance and historical values there are different to social values.

Kamala attacking Trump’s rallies was genius. He’s insanely proud of his rallies and the MAGA crowd lap it all up. Even more so saying that ‘people leaving due to boredom/exhaustion’ - almost certainly a lie - just got him right at the very apex of his ego. He just unraveled from there. Genius move. |

Difficult to prove motive, but there is fairly widespread evidence that his rallies have been less well attended than in 2016 or 2020 and there is footage of people leaving at several of them well before the end. If the polls weren't so tight, I'd suggest trump has clearly jumped the shark, but the polls contradict that view. |

One of the appalling aspects of current US political debate is the prevalence of severely misleading statements and outright lying. BBC Verify checked 4 claim by Trump. bbc.co.uk Two statements were overtly false (‘illegal immigrants eating pets’; ‘inflation was the worst ever under Biden’) Two were not consistent with available evidence (‘millions coming to US from prison or asylums’; crime down in Venezuela because they are sending criminal to US’) , They checked three statements by Harris. One was false (she said that unemployment under Trump was the worst since the Great Depression; in fact it was higher in 2009); One was misleading (Trump did not say he would sign a national abortion ban; he has been equivocal on abortion issues, and his Supreme Court appointments contributed to reversal of Roe v Wade); One was true (at least some economists have said that that Trump sales tax would cost middle class families about $4,000 more a year.) While Trump’s record is abhorrent, I am also disappointed by Harris’ inaccuracy. |
