Nate Silver's take on the US debate that if you watched it with the sound off, then Trump won because he's taller is quite special.

Crikey. Although someone has said that if you watch sound off then the body language and facial expressions etc can tell you who won. I think that there is something in that, but height? Does he even understand how insane that sounds? |

I'm paraphrasing a little, and it's in addition to the body language stuff (which i personally think is mostly bunk tbh), but yes he made reference to the fact that they had different sizes of podium and that that was important... Silver's gone off the rails somewhat since COVID. His libertarian bent got tangled over the lockdowns and stuff during the pandemic. And it turns out that all the time he was running 538, he had a compulsion gambling issue. |

As others have said, we laugh at Trump but voted Johnson in. If Corbyn was so bad, there were other choices.

Trump looked very angry last night. Not a good look for the person with his finger on the nuclear button. I hope last night moves the dial because something has to.

The resounding line of the night seems to be the "i have the concepts of a plan on healthcare" that Trump came out with after being challenged about his failed bid to repeal the ACA. 9 years later and he has the concepts of a plan. That he originally trailed 9 years ago. |

I don't think he has the first idea and why would he because a) He is too dim b) He doesn't care about governing c) When was he ever denied healthcare because he didn't fit the bill - like Sunak, he is so rich he is completely out of touch. He will do whatever pops into his head and that will likely be cruel nonsense spoonfed to him by the Heritage Foundation and their ilk. He is so lazy and addled that he is terrifically easy to manipulate - as last night showed. I think he spends a lot of time in the RW online fish tank soaking up their batshit conspiracy nonsense while he eats his burgers and tweets up a storm, and when he hits primetime and starts spouting the latest fantasies anyone who doesn't spend all their time on Fox and Newsmax can only laugh with disbelief at the crap he just came out with. His performance was "just a bunch of 4chan posts come to life", as someone said. |

And, for what it's worth, about 1/4 of British respondents would also vote for Trump if they got the chance. inews.co.uk Baffling given his press over here. But I guess less baffling in the context of the Farage / RW Tory wing votes at the last election. |
