I still have something of a sense that there are at least a chunk of those young, Reform voters who are simply "anti-establishment" in their motivations, rather than just racist bigots, and who could easily have seen an appeal from the Corbyn / Momentum anti-establishment drive. I've no data to back it up, but articles like this suggest a similar thinking. dazeddigital.com Evans adds that he isn’t surprised Farage has found a small but significant fanbase among the young in particular. “The stuff about ‘Generation Left’ was always wrong,” he says. “This idea that youth are innately left-wing is just rubbish. I think a lot of young people are just upset and desperate for a change – for a time that was offered by Corbyn, but now change is coming in the form of a snake oil salesman like Farage.” |

Anecdotally I'd agree with some of that assessment larkim.

Betting market has had him go from 6-1 out to 12-1 chance to be next president during yesterday. Multiples stories about standing down and health concerns. He might not drop out because of Covid, but it's almost like he's trying to find a reason not to stand but also save face.

Given age related health concerns are why people want him to stand down, I'm not really sure how it saves face.

He's a smart guy, so presumably one of the following things are true:- - he sees data which tells him a win is possible, despite the current concerns - he sees data which tells him the game is over but no other Dem candidate would do any better, so it's easier for him to take the fall I can't bring myself to believe that he is just another power crazed old white guy who would do anything to try to stay in power, but if his judgement is not based on any data then to an extent you'd have to bracket him with Trump in terms of the lure of power, wouldn't you? |
