Oh Labour form the next government, and they have will have difficulty extracting themselves from all the redlines they've set up. But even then it will still be better than the Tories.

Shouldn't be surprised but Galloway backing Farage and remarking about the hysteria about telling the truth. "Expect fireworks" if we're both elected to the next parliament.

Far left == far right in so many things. E.g. Brexit.

I spent half an hour deep at the bottom of the internet earlier.

Some of Farage's most ardent supporters see it as a positive that he is backing the racist and antisemitic and islamophobi things that some reform candidates have been exposed as saying. Because they are saying the same things.

Conspiracy theories and things like the WEF and great replacement conspiracies are rife amongst them

I actually saw my first reference to horseshoe theory earlier today, though it was more in jest / conspiracy.

Paul - I believe the horseshoe theory is not widely supported in the polysci community, but I still find it highly coincidental that they repeat the same conspiracy theories and quite a lot of the populist far left that support Galloway are now also supporting Farage.

As someone on the leftish side of the left spectrum, I actually agree with fozzy here. I do think it's a narrow line at times. But I still think you can be deeply critical of institutions like the EU and NATO while not opposing everything they stand for. Life is imperfect and messy, the EU is a Thatcherite behemoth that has grown too far beyond its original remit. BUT The alternatives seem to be worse to me. When I realised all the racists were gonna be voting leave, I wanted no part of what they stood for and desired, even indirectly.

And it's one thing to sit outside them, but HOW do you reform and change them from the sidelines? Russia want us outside the EU and NATO and that alone should set alarm bells ringing. To me it now looks like we should have crossed Russia in 2014, as ceding them Crimea (and thus dooming the Crimean tatars to an even worse life as second class citizens) has done nothing othen than embolden Russia to take more. I don't see the EU and NATO expanding, I see countries wanting to join them rather than Russia. And given that's the case, the first question you should be asking is why.

rf_fozzy wrote:Bill lives on a small housing development and quite often annoys his neighbours by repeatedly destroying flowerbeds, being abusive and shouting at his neighbours, because he thought, wrongly that all the 'common land' belonged to him. Some time ago, Sally, Dave and Ahmed formed a residents association because they didnt like their garden areas being destroyed and Bill's behaviour. And over time they became friendly and even had each other over for BBQs and shared gardening tools and things. Sam, Samira, Beata and Nina actually had gardens that bordered Bill's and bore the brunt of his unpleasantness but didn't initially join the association Over time, Sam and Samira decided to join the association as they thought the benefits were worth it and we're afraid Bill (who is a big chap) might get physical and the residents association gave them a way to his behaviour, but not in such a way that they were left isolated. This was the situation for many years. Sam was particularly close to the group and often joined them for their street parties, but didn't want to join the association because with his garden neighbouring Bill's, he didn't want to have any aggro. Then a few years ago, Bill decided he would claim part of Beata's garden - just a small bit, at the back, because it meant he'd have room for a bigger bin store and Beata wasn't using it. He also decided to aggressively chop the hedge between his garden and Beata's, and throw the rubbish over. Beata protested, but despite a few strongly worded letters, the association didn't do anything because Beata wasn't a member. Then last week, Bill decided to lay claim to all Beata's garden and although he didn't get into the house, he's fenced off a huge chunk of her garden. Sam was very concerned about this because his garden on the other side has a pile of wood and fence panels against the current exisiting fence. And so he has joined the residents association for some security and moral support When asked about all this, Bill said, and was supported by some people in the next street that he was provoked in occupying Beata's garden by the residents association.
