Two thoughts. If Starmer continues to say more or less the same as the tories and be an empty suit he will get monstered in any TV debate; and polls will close. Sure Kief hates anything to do with Corbyn but Jezza had a lot of popular policies and he shouldn’t wash his hands of them |

Starmer has ample supply of quality policies that differentiate him from the scum currently in 'power'.

Sure Kief hates anything to do with Corbyn but Jezza had a lot of popular policies and he shouldn’t wash his hands of them I’m taking it with a pinch of salt, a huge one, but after Rachel Reeves basically poured utter scorn on Corbyn’s 2019 manifesto this week, I saw a poll this week that Labour voters still favoured Corbyn more than Blair, Starmer and one other Labour person, possibly Miliband but I can’t remember it being him. |

Starmer has ample supply of quality policies that differentiate him from the scum currently in 'power'. That’s not necessarily saying much. The current scum in power are so much more to the right than a normal Tory party. So filling anything to the left of that could be nearly anything. |

I like Sadie although I sometimes have difficulty getting over the fact that he helped give Labour Jeremy Corbyn.

While I am disappointed that Labour is failing to get their message regarding their genuinely left-oriented green polices across, I also recognise that they face several huge challenges: not only scepticism from BBC interviewers, but also condemnation from traditional Labour supporters who do not accept Starmer’s view that the best way for Labour to implement left-orientated polices is to win the next General Election. To win the next GE it is important for labour to avoid unnecessary alienation of potential supporters. That requires sensible balance between a principled appeal to traditional Labour voters and a principled appeal to the centre. However, at present I think they are being too timid in their wish to avoid upsetting Red Wall constituents who were seduced by Johnson’s dishonest Brexit rhetoric in 2019. There are many things that Labour could focus on: support for upgraded East-West rail links in the North and Midlands; more support for insulation of houses; clearer illustrations of how the proposed ‘Green Energy’ company could bring jobs to the North. I am also disappointed by Starmer’s apparent tin ear regarding Scottish issues, and needless statements regarding Brexit. However, these faux pas are trivial compared with the big issues, especially climate change and the need for left-orieted green policies. |
