"Wasnt the reason it took so long to appoint Truss basically down to the fact that parliament was on Summer recess and the MPs and party staff didnt want to abandon their holidays to speed it up?" Several reasons were put forward. None of them convincing. |

I suspect they loved the 'headline' hogging of the psychodrama of electing a new leader. And that Johnson wanted to hang on a bit so he went past May. Probably the only reason they're not doing it this time is because they realise that if they did, there'd be a genuine chance of civil unrest towards Tory MPs. |

If Bozo comes back, do you reckon Liz will have had chance to get rid of the wallpaper?

Would be gobsmacked if Johnson gets 100 nominations by Monday. Sunak and Mordaunt maybe. Nobody else unless some other strategy by then. |

They love Boris. After all be ‘got Brexit done’. I saw a woman of a certain age carrying a book with his photo on the back yesterday. It was obviously a sign

In the members vote, Sunak lost to the shortest serving PM in history Feels like the only way he can win here is being the sole candidate to gather 100 votes? Is that really odds on? Now they've said it goes to an e-vote I make Mordaunt the favourite, but it's far from clear how it might play out in the first stage. |

Johnson will get 100 if he stands. Maybe. The sycophants will sychophant. Looking at you Ms Dorries (aka the next Mrs Johnson). Surely it's not his style to replace the current one with an older model? It's only his cultural references that he prefers ancient. |

Johnson won't get 100 votes, and we know this because he already tried to get his cronies voted on to the 1922 committee and failed. And that's why there is a 100 vote barrier for him to attempt to get over. And round of applause for Ed Miliband who by tabling the fracking motion has brought Liz Truss down. 7 years too late to topple a Tory PM, but better later than never. And let's play this again by Ed because it's excellent... twitter.com |

Yes, it was something of a master stroke that the Trussbot fumbled magnificently.
