That would be nuts if you want to win.
In regards to gaming the system, I think the system makes sense if you want to elect a leader quickly TBF. Get someone in that will have a larger number of supporters.

There are Tory MPs saying they will trigger byelections if Johnson comes back, but i think the drunken oaf will beat them to the punch calling a snap GE and flush them all down the toilet
