I get the feeling Johnson will only officially stand if he gets to 100 and doesn't want to be otherwise an official loser. He'll want to know what support he has before declaring.

I think he has 48 hours to make his pitch and offer as many bribes as he can to get the votes. Rory Stewart said Johnson once said to him”Look Rory, come on my side and I’ll give you x. Don’t hold me to it and this conversation didn’t happen blah blah.” In other words, here’s an offer that’s not a serious offer which I will deny I ever made and if you are a complete fool you will believe me and act accordingly. The Tories lost their wits root and branch 6 years ago and picking him again will just be another data point in the general picture of their unfitness to govern. |

There's a masochistic streak in me that wants to see what happens if Johnson gets back.. I need to go and find a dark corner.. |

Everyone in the Conservatives seems to be having amnesia. Either than or Liz Truss simply accentuates the Boris positives so much they have consigned the negatives to the bin in their minds. If it’s Boris this will not be a fresh start. No returning prodigal son. His baggage is well and truly known and still there. All those quotes about him from colleagues when he left will be dusted down and thrown back at them. |

I mean I told you his colleagues were full of shit yesterday. The only hope is there's enough of them that realise it's a terrible look. On the other hand, I can see people thinking they have nothing to lose I'd they think no one can really turn things round in the next couple of years.

They've forgotten: The lies The incompetence The foolishness The absence of a serious plan for the country The broken manifesto commitments The forgotten or broken "promises" 148 votes of no confidence 60 resignations 2 massive by-election losses Huge negative approval ratings The endless drama and bullshit this man delivered So what has he got? I think it's just that his completely amoral nature means they can confidently expect him to lie and bullshit his way through the next election. That's what they want, because any platform based on their record will doom them. |

But he got the big calls right, never forget. Even his bestie Rishi said so. And sure he had a few misdemeanours letting off steam during lockdown, but he was under such an immense workload and he's done his stint in the naughty corner for that so it's time to move on. And look at Ukraine, he strode about with Zelenskyy in Kyiv to show what a brave hero he was. This is the guy to steer the Tory ship back to winning ways. Buller Buller Buller! |

I think we underestimate the loyalty of his acolytes. All that stuff about resignations and confidence letters is stuff that doesn't influence them one little bit - they see him as hard done by, the messiah, their saviour. They are not rational about it, and almost nothing will change their minds. They've had their chance to make the clean break, reflect on misplaced loyalities and move on - and they've still concluded that they were right all along and that Johnson is the best the Tory parliamentary party has got. Their colleagues won't forgive them though if they manage to get him back on the ticket. So there'll be all out war in the Tory party for the foreseeable future if they stick with their loyalities. I'm happy enough with that, it will do even more damage to the Tories long term than Truss did. |

It would be terrifically amusing if the polls don't move after he got put back in place. Their guts will turn to water as they realise that not only has their gamble failed, but they are saddled with his pratfalls and idiocy for another 18 months.
