An urgent question asking the government to confirm that a non existent tortoise has the right to vote on who becomes next PM in a week would be something for the history books

I observe that the last election had a paper ballot and an online option voting option. Online only for overseas addresses (smh). Which raises the question of how you get to vote this time if you are a raving sociopath pensioner with no email address. In short, I can see a balls up heading their way, which will doubtless be swept under the carpet but will nevertheless be another nail in the coffin. |

Grant Shapps expected to make an announcement later today saying the tortoise is to be deported to Rwanda and the Conservative government take identity fraud extremely seriously

Is the tortoise a party donor?! Yes. He's been shelling out the big bucks for years, plus he was a big lettuce supporter when it was unfashionable to be one. Who's laughing now! |

A nice potted summary of why Johnson resigned. bbc.co.uk Honestly, I think it is in the long term interest of the country that Johnson is put back in power; in 18 months, can he really do that much damage that would be worse than if Mordaunt or Sunak were in power *and managed to make themselves re-electable* (or at least defused the potential for a Labour landslide). Johnson is the most likely candidate to deliver a Labour victory in 2025. |

Are we getting the impression that the Truss 'premiership', in certain circles, has been seen as little more than a fridge?

Latest poll today (by People Polling) so unlikely to be recent enough for a current 100% accurate picture, gives Labour, what I presume a record, 39-point lead. In fact Conservatives are only just in second position!
