Sir Keir comes to life when he's dealing with his stock-in-trade: the law. He has an internationally acknowledged good reputation as a Human Rights lawyer:

However, is he far better as a lawyer than he can ever be as a politician?

He helped the defendants in the Mclible case for free.

Apparently according to some that makes him and anyone who thinks that's a good thing a Tory. 🤷🤦

On the other hand, voting for the most illiberal hard right Tory wet dream of a policy makes you a 'pure' left wing supporter

I, of course, draw no conclusions*

‘The culture secretary, Nadine Dorries, a diehard Johnson loyalist, is also reportedly consulting colleagues about whether she has sufficient support to run. ‘

Keir Starmer became DPP at 46 without the benefit of a rich background, public school or the classic Oxbridge education . That's a high achiever.

He is *exactly* the sort of person that A-holes at the Heil and in the Tory Party would normally hold up as "British Success Stories" - anyone can make it in the land of free enterprise if they work hard enough.

But he's a bit stiff, a bit boring and his voice isn't great.

Haven't people been watching our clown car of a PM for the last 3 years? Much of the time he can barely string a sentence together. People need to stop buying all the empty charisma bollocks and return back to some basic questions about what they want in a politician:

Honesty
Decency
Integrity
Trustworthiness
Wisdom
Gravitas
Statesmanship
A platform they can get behind and the competence to deliver it

Bunter fails on all of those. Bunter is a rotten politician and a despicable human being, but the Tories in Parliament elected him in full knowledge of that and then propped his lies up for 3 years before the stink got too much for them and he put their futures in jeopardy.

I can say right now: whoever gets the Iron Throne and slaps a bit of lipstick on the Tory pig, it will still be a pig, and the corruption and lies and cruelty will continue - they will just get smarter and less obvious about it.

Marina Hyde. I shall be contacting her people for stealing some of my stuff.

Boris Johnson is leaving office with the same dignity he brought to it: none. I’ve seen more elegant prolapses. Having spent 36 hours on the run from what other people know as consequences, Downing Street’s Raoul Moat was finally smoked out of his storm drain on Thursday, having awoken that morning with what one aide described portentously as a “moment of clarity”. I mean, he’d lost 57 ministers? And been booed everywhere from the steps of St Paul’s to the cricket? Hard to know how much more clarity could have been offered to this big-brain, short of a plane flying over Downing Street trailing a banner reading U WANT PICKING UP IN THE MORNING PAL? This is the version of Jaws where the shark eats the mayor, and the entire beach is rooting for the shark.

They got Al Capone on tax evasion; they got Al Johnson on evasion. Character is fate, and the prime minister was undone by his lifelong pathological inability to tell the truth. Johnson’s ridiculously graceless “resignation” speech ran the gamut from pettiness to miscast victimhood – a sort of Bozzymandias, where the vainglory stood in painfully unfortunate contrast to the fact it was all lying in ruins around him. As the boos threatened to overwhelm his delivery, it was clear that what would satisfy the crowds was him being made to do a walk of shame, like some Blobby Cersei Lannister. (Same hairdo.) Failing that, he should have been wheeled out of Downing Street in the booze suitcase.

My problem with Starmer isn’t that he is boring, it’s that he is cowardly and dishonest. His central plank of “making Brexit work” is a lie on a par with the Leave campaign. He promises to give you a unicorn if only you vote for him. Newsflash: there is no unicorn. Unicorns don’t exist.

He bangs on about integrity and honesty, but doesn’t have sufficient of either to dare state the blindingly obvious fact that leaving the SM+CU was a disaster and reversing this decision is be easy to undo some of the harm. This is something that’s even been discussed by some Conservative brexiters. It leaves me wondering, what is the point of the Labour Party?

That's politics though jda.

He cannot campaign for rejoin just yet.

He has to demonstrate to labour voters that, as we know, Brexit is moronic unless you're a hard right Uber-wealthy conservative donor.

Until then, the shift in the electorate cannot happen and the Tories will use it as an attack line.

What will happen in reality will be that Starmer would move us into a much closer relationship with the EU, that whilst not perfect, is better than we have now. That then allows the line to be spun of 'look how much better things are with a close relationship with the EU, perhaps we'd be better off in it'

Then only the far right and far left loons would be able to disagree.

I agree with Fozzy.

Plus, politics is about more than Brexit (swoon) and, as said before, sometimes you just have to get the bus which takes you closer to your destination rather than wait for a non-existent one to drop you on the doorstep.

There's a difference between campaigning for rejoin and definitively saying you won't re-enter the SM ot CU come what may.
