I haven't followed it in depth but I thought there was abuse on both sides in Heard v Depp. It sounded like a horribly toxic relationship with no winners. Probably best if both of them could move on with their separate lives.

I ran down a street on Sunday where I saw them out handing lots of bunting. It is a street that I would need a significant lottery win if I wanted a property there

One of my neighbours was trying to arrange a small BBQ to mark the occassion but there wasnt huge interest

Thank the trade unions for bank holidays, not the royal family :-)

Actually Bank Holidays were established by the Bank Holidays Act of 1871 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bank_Holidays_Act_1871) which was repealed and replaced by the Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_holidays_in_the_United_Kingdom#History)

My employer doesnt recognise trade unions, never has. They gave us an extra day this year on top of what is already a very generous holiday entitlement and so I am off tomorrow.

Despite no trade union we also have what I believe is the best paternity leave policy available anywhere. They also increased an already generous pension contribution a couple of years back

Plenty other issues with them (such as no pay rise for 2 years) , but it doesnt necessarily need a union to get good benefits

Unions have very specific aims and can be very conservative (small 'c') in their thinking.

And as Baz says, some (particularly US) companies don't recognise them full stop.

Unions have their uses (and I say this as a member of one), but like any organisation, they're definitely not perfect.

And to claim that they're responsible for bank holidays is incorrect.

All the Amber Heard stuff reminds me of A Very British Scandal.

I agree with Fields that it isn't entertainment and the fact that so many people have such vitriol for Amber Heard on social media is worrying to me. There's no way that they are all clued up on the case.

Also in Rooney vs Vardy, Vardy was the one that wanted to go to court, Rooney tried to settle. I did keep up with that trial and TBH if Vardy wins, it feels like a technicality win (an earlier ruling in the case said that even though Rooney said it was Vardy's account it meant Vardy so Rooney has to prove it was Vardy herself). It's pretty clear from the trial that Vardy was leaking stuff to the press and authorising leaks.
