Interesting. Didn't realise that the footage of Keir Starmer "having a beer" came from James Delingpole's son who was (at the time) a student at Durham.

I'm still of the opinion that if they have a vote of no confidence he will lose - possibly bigly - but I'm also feeling that the vote against could be anything from 60 to 260 so the trolley is still in with a shout. I can only see downside for "the electorate" of Tory MPs as far as sticking with the trolley is concerned - particularly given that there are more Partygate revelations every week and it's pretty clear he has lied all down the line. When they spout "he is the man" I really can't believe they mean what they say. A secret ballot will be revealing about the difference between words and deeds. I recall that a lot of the party members were spitting feathers when the cabinet punted Thatch. Perhaps this will also be another of those, although given he is in negative territory on Conservative Home and bottom of the table, maybe not. Ben Wallace and Zahawi are top, with Truss still figuring. Wallace might be a good bet... |

I think Johnson's toast. Just putting it out there. The dam has burst. IMO.

I'm with jda here. I thought after the Gray report came out he'd managed to get through, but the reports at the weekend of Conservatives and conservatives being taken aback by the hubris shown by Johnson and his acolytes seems to show they've been a bit wound up by the lack of any humility being shown at all. The by-elections will be the crucial test of the post-Gray waters. Do we know when the parliamentary inquiry will happen? |

I believe it will start next month, reporting in October. I just think there is too much stuff coming out on a daily basis for him to survive now - report editing and suppression, events not investigated, incriminating texts... and, not least, dragging Carrie Antoinette into it. Wherever she is these days that one is going to go down like a lead balloon, and so it should, given that they all, Gray included, have turned a blind eye to the shenanigans in the flat. Party photos that haven't been submitted to Gray or the leaking of the unedited report will push more MPs over the edge, as will the daily revelations of the Inquiry. As is often the case, the cover up will be what does the fatal damage. That's before we get to the attempt to rewrite the code and all the dead cat distraction nonsense. It's chaos, really, and no way to run a country in the middle of multiple crises. I really don't envy the person who comes after him. |

I saw a comment last week that, at the time approx 47 letters were needed to oust Theresa May, only about half of that went public about their letter. So there may be a few that are hidden from the public..? |

My suspicion is that more of them will be open in this case, as it's driven by public pressure whereas in May's case it was basically internal party politics. So I don't think the 50% measure is a generalisable rule.

I agree I think they will shout about it. Interesting that one is calling for the PM to offer himself up for a vote. He won't. |
