I would certainly agree it's getting close now, and primarily for the reason you mention (rather than any noble concern for the governance of the country).

Boris Johnson has been accused of changing the ministerial code.. It's a long time since I read Animal Farm, but this government (if you can call lurching from one disaster to another "governing") are getting more like the pigs every week. Re-writing the rules to suit themselves now. You couldn't make it up (unless you were George Orwell of course). |

theguardian.com The integrity of the Gray report looks to be in doubt. Selective in its scope, wonder why that was? If the thrust of that article is true, them Gray was just a smoke screen whether she knew or not. Then rewrite the ministerial code, so 'vexaous' complaints don't mess things up, without mentioning what vexaous is. |

I'm in two minds what to believe about the SG report. I want to believe the "cover up" aspect, but I also want to have faith in a civil servant like SG and her overall integrity (which is something we were supposed to be able to rely on). Maybe just my usual naivety. |

theguardian.com Great article about the state of the oligarchic Uk economy, 40 years + of neoliberal governments and rentier capitalism has wrecked havoc on ordinary peoples lives. |

Thanks for the link Fields. That's a really good read about the fundamentals, and the swing of the last 40 years. Sad times, imho. G

That's very interesting Fields. Sadly, it's just kind of crept up on us over the last 40 years, hasn't it? The idea of government for "the people" seems to have been largely forgotten.

We have government “for the people”, 3M. It’s just a rather select group of people…

Yes, that's why our EU-backed employment rights and environmental protection laws were so important. Shame no-one thought about that before throwing it all away. |

I'm pretty sure the powers that be did think about it. Just not in the way most of the population would have liked them to if it had been properly/ honestly explained. Still, we can go back to 4 apples weighing a pound now, instead of about 500g. That's so useful whilst the economy tanks and the Prime Minister (and maybe most of the Cabinet?) are incapable of telling the truth (about anything, apparently). |
