It's crystal clear now that Johnson just wants power and power with as little scrutiny and accountability as possible. If he gets re-elected he will get worse - see also Trump. He will tell more and more lies which he has no intention of delivering upon because so far he has gotten away with it. He will also continue to dismantle institutions little by little, day by day, by packing them with his placemen and rewriting the rules. He will, in short, continue to break things and then blame someone else for the destruction. The Bullingdon Boy never went away - smash things up and then bluster your way out of any responsibility.

It's probably naive to think that the Tory MPs will eventually grow a pair and boot him, but I still think on balance they will - out of self-interest above all things, which generally trumps party, country, and those annoying so-called virtues of public service, integrity, selflessness etc. The Partygate thing isn't going away and sooner or later they will tire of him using govt purely for self-preservation: he is governing the way he has always lived - selfishness, entitlement and irresponsibility.

My MP has publicly said he’s happy to move on. Some have a backbone but I’d guess most don’t.

I’ve no idea to even guess how Johnson’s gameplan goes with this. But I’d say you’re right that he’s most interested in the title of power than doing anything at all decent with it.

I have completely given up on the hope of any principle, probity or decency being shown by Conservative MPs. But I still hold out hope that there are enough traditional Conservative voters out there who are seeing what has been happening to their party and don't like it. It is, after all, completely unrecognisable from the party in, say, the Major years and even the early Cameron years.

I must ask my Father-in-Law, a staunch Conservative voter who also voted for Brexit how he feels about it all.

I'm pretty sure his new heart pacemaker will stand it.... :-o

I'm sure he happy with it all 3M, after all it's what he voted for, we're repeatedly assured by quitters they knew what they were voting for.

Maybe we should start to ask Brexit voters: if the UK decided to vote to return to the EU, what is it they would miss..?
