"So I've just seen the public information film that still says we should stay indoors where possible and only go out if necessary, but Johnson is all over the news telling us to go out and browse in the shops. I despair. "
I've kept googlebox from the end of May when Tom Senior had a rant "Go to work, don't go to work, get public transport, but don't get public transport, but go to work, and don't go to work, go to the park, but don't go to the park, get exercise but don't get exercise and go to work."
It's like reading Foundation by Asimov all over again.

This from Pres Macron would make me pretty proud to be French:
“This challenge has also revealed weaknesses, fragilities, our dependence on other continents to procure certain products, our cumbersome organisation, our social and territorial inequalities,” he said. “I would like us to learn all the lessons from what we have been through.”

He has to say that, though, doesn't he? Because his country didn't "survive the blitz and will therefore survive this"

no. But let's see what he does about it, actions, not words.
