SFL - I'd disagree - nationalising the railways is overwhelmingly popular and for good reason.
You might not use the train a lot, but many many many commuters across the country do. And the franchise system has failed.
I agree with you somewhat though - the manifesto was just too much - pick say 3 or 4 key things and stick with them. Rather than the 4000 things they tried to pack in.
In fact, if they'd just said NHS every day for 3 weeks, I suspect they'd have done better.
Interesting to see what the LDs do now. They've basically made no gains at all. So they've fared no better against the Tories...

My teacher told me in 1993, Health, Housing and Education are key areas that Labour need to dominate to win an election.

I think what happens in the Home Counties May be key as these are largely affluent areas which aren’t left behind, are probably remain, and perhaps more socially liberal, “global citizens” and metropolitan than the seats declared thusfar

The independent, Claire Wright, winning in East Devon would be a pretty interesting result.

I know someone who works as a private tutor in English and most of the school pupils she sees are from private schools! What's that about?
I think I'm off to bed, this is all too depressing and I'm old enough to have lived through thatcher.

mrs shanksi - it's because the teaching in (a lot) private schools isn't any better than comp schools.
So the wealthy parents throw more money at little johnny or cynthia.
As I said earlier - private school education is no better than state schools. The problem with private schools is the extras that the wealthy kids get from going there (including extra opportunity).
Private tution *does* make a difference - 1-to-1 coaching is always going to make a difference.
