Gareth Snell pretty scathing in interview with Neill....

As much quite a bit of the blame will (rightly) go to Corbyn (he learned the wrong lessons from 2017), I feel a bit for McDonnell (he should have got the leadership) who is being tarred with the same brush - and whilst some of the blame is his, he has always come across to me, as open, thoughtful, honest and always interviews well and answers questions straight up.

As opposed to the PM who's won a big majority this evening.

Looking back from 2010 onwards, what I think we've seen is the rise of populist simplism. And unfortunately this wins elections.

I haven't heard any candidates blaming the manifesto for being too left-wing - it's Corbyn himself that has been the vote loser.

I think my point, TMW, is that the economic policies of Corbyn's Labour aren't actually disastrous or threatening, quite the reverse. They're working in all sorts of countries across Europe and the world, but they're being presented as some sort of Communist gulag situation by people who don't want to have to start paying their taxes.

I don't think the Labour policies need to be much different from Corbyn's. They need to be sold completely differently...

Agree with that, fozzy - I've a lot more time for McDonnell than Corbyn

But if the policies don't change they won't get media support and the knives come out for whoever tries to sell them, no matter how they're sold, because it's going after the media barons and the big companies and the tory supporters with deep pockets.

Nellers - you may be right. It’s about perception however. I reckon Boris would sell Corbyn’s economic policies better than Corbyn.

Great post Cerratonia, right on the money.

Doogs - McDonnell won me over with his speech (the 'I would swim through Vomit' one) in parl when the Coalition govt were passing through the benefit "reforms" post-2010.

If I recall rightly, Milliband ordered Lab to abstain on that one.
