It's funny about the electability of Johnson. I've made that point to lots of work colleagues and family etc, and not one of them can see how anyone could consider him to be a PM worthy of a vote. Maybe I just live in a perfect echo chamber, but I'd like to meet these mythical people who think he is someone worth voting for!

(I get that people still want to vote Tory, want to support Brexit etc - but want to support Johnson??!?)

My FiL is still fairly keen on him!

I've been drip feeding in fact about his shady behaviours for the last few weeks. Best response from the last few weeks "I didn't know he'd been fired".

The good thing about reading The Metro is that you do get letters that exemplify an answer to your question larks - "He gets things done." "He's trying to sort Brexit." "He doesn't take any cr*p from people." "He tells it like it is." etc. There are lots of things that people like about Johnson. Including his straight talking (simplism, lying), telling it like it is (bullying, xenophobia, lying!) and his unequivocal stance on Brexit (now that it suits him, but shamelessly u-turning when it suits too!) :-) G

I just can't get over the fact that he seems to be able to play the "anti-establishment" card yet is as close to establishment as any recent PM can possibly be!!

but he doesn't tell it like it is does he? he just uses flowery language.

He's not trying to sort brexit. he voted against TM's deal and stopped it, 3 times.

People are just thick.

That's what i can't get my head around. It is so self evident that Bojo is utterly useless, that irrespective of whether you agree with what he *wants* to do, he just presents like an utter buffoon from the landed gentry (well, not quite in the Rees-Mogg mould, but definitely from the same prep school and public school background). How that appeals to the "plain speaking man on the clapham omnibus" I don't know!!

I must say that the response from the government and the tabloid press to the Supreme Court ruling has been deeply disturbing. I had hoped the unanimity of the ruling might at least cause them to have a brief pause for thought, but they've gone full 'enemies of the people'. This is terribly, terribly dangerous for the future of democracy in this country.

And yet so many people just can't grasp that simple point. It is becoming apparent that what we've got in the country is pure and simply and intellectual deficit amongst huge numbers of the population.

Or perhaps it's just that we've not done a good enough job of educating a whole couple of generations about the fundamentals of citizenship in the UK, the separation of the powers, the independence of the judiciary etc.

I still think we're the victims of our own success, if you like. It's the very fact that we've never had fascism here and everything has been comfortable and safe for so long that we're uniquely vulnerable to it, because people somehow think it simply can't happen here, not in Britain. "It'll all sort itself out, don't worry".
