The Rebel alliance quite sensibly want to make Johnson ask for the extension himself. Hence no VONC yet. There is also the worry that after losing the VONC he could set the election date after 31st Oct.

DeeGee the Windsor knot is frowned upon by the Army supposedly due to the Duke of Windsor supposedly being a Nazi collaborator post abdication.

Thank you, Molesy. Are the army all four-in-hand men? Or is there a secret symmetrical knot that only soldiers know?

larks - Lib dems want to move forward the asking for an extension date, which is perhaps another way around it.

What real merit is there in having Bojo ask for the extension himself? It's abundantly clear that he would only be doing it under duress / obligation, so I'm not sure there is political capital to be gained from being able to paint him as "the man who said 31st Oct or bust, who then asked for an extension".

LibDem approach to amend the date seems worth a go though.

If Johnson was an honest and honorable man, then painting him as the man who said "31st October" and then failed might have political capital.

Painting him as the man who has so far lied to everyone up to and including the Queen, then lied to the public about 31st October, however...

If a labour-dominated GNU did it then it would be a more obvious attack point for the tabloids. "Collaborator Corbyn" etc. I agree that it's a largely technical difference but the humiliation for Johnson would be worth seeing.

As an air cadet I was informed half windsor for parade was the expectation.
I adopted it for school tie purposes as well as it was more difficult to 'peanut'.

Throughout this whole process Johnson has acted like he is in a government with a majority. He is not.

If he had a majority, he could have done all this without the blink of an eyelid. But instead he's actively sacked mps, driven some from the party, and deserves to be held to the light asking for an extension, because these are direct consequences of his bullishness, his lies, his lack of care , his lack of political nous.

His ONE possibly strong card is that a large portion of the British populace will still vote for him at a general election, but because of FPTP it may well be not enough people in the right places. So they will stack up 10,000s of votes in Epsom, Stratford upon Avon etc but when it comes to Dundee, Aberdeen and St Ives these tactics might seem a bit less clever. And then he might well be left like Hilary Clinton winning a popular vote by miles, but not the electoral map.
