Still no parkrun in 2025 yet for me. Thurso cancelled again tomorrow.

I wonder what the coldest a UK parkrun has gone ahead in? I have run in -8°C at University of Stirling. (Although it had warmed up to -5 by the time I drove home. Course was in great condition - no mud 🦛.)

One of my favourite parkrun memories was Milton Country Park, February 11th 2012, in snow and ice. My car reckoned it was -14C and the pre-run briefing include the instructions to not run too fast as it was quite slippery. Several fetchies running and volunteering that day IIRC. Looking at the results, I see that there are several people for whom it was their first and only parkrun.

@IdrisTheDragon I think I know the post you mean - I live a mile away and am probably going to give it a miss even if it's on so the thought of people driving a decent distance to get here made me roll my eyes a bit

Cambridge University weather station has the temperature at -13.3C at parkrun time that day, so I think it could well have been -14C at Milton. There were quite a few runners in t-shirts and shorts IIRC.

Most are cancelled so travelling people need time to get there, a late decision means rushing, which is terrible in these conditions!” How is that on a parkrun’s shoulders? Feel free to not rush and travel if it’s not safe… I had dinner with my parents tonight and my mum said one of her mates had texted her tonight a similar thing. FFS we post on FB on Fridays with a course update if there is a risk of cancellation so that people can make their own decision. |

Interesting cancellation reason at Southport 'Risk of too many migratory visitors fleeing ice.' Strong hints of 'we don't want every parkrun tourist in all of the North West descending on us'. Maybe the pushback against the entitlement is starting? Or, more likely, wishful thinking on my part. |

I think it's a fair reason to cancel. There must be lots of smaller parkruns that just aren't set up for high numbers and it also stops people making stupid car journeys in poor conditions. (I think people should be able to control themselves and Just Not Go if it's a bad idea to travel or likely to contribute to dangerous over-crowding....but they won't will they?) Shame for the locals who could otherwise have a parkrun.

I think it's absolutely fair too (assuming I'm not reading something that wasn't intended to be there). Just agreeably surprised they are being so open it.
