Bushy is definitely an experience! Very well organised I thought, considering the numbers. I guess they have fine tune it by now

Did fountains this morning. Well worth the trip, especially on a sunny morning like today.
I like the fact that their barcode scanning is 200m down the path from the finish! Didn't stopoads of people standing around at the end of the finish funnel, blocking the path though!

Always intrigued me why people stand and chat in the most obstructive positions. Standing blethering in doorways in the classic example. My theory is they’re in denial about how long they’re going to talk for and that’s why they don’t take the three or four steps necessary to leave a way through. They think they’ve just paused briefly to say hello to someone going in the other direction and twenty minutes later they still tell themselves they’ll be moving in a few seconds. I’m sure I probably do it too sometimes without even realising. Though not at the funnel at parkrun - maybe the layout helps or maybe it’s just that it’s not a huge event.

I'm sure there has been some study on it, but would hazard a guess that by chatting near a doorway gives you the safety net of being able to suddenly remember something important and leave the room when you get bored of the conversation. Moving properly into the space and getting comfortable and it's more difficult to then leave and chat to someone else as you are committed to chatting with that person.
Probably why everyone ends up in the kitchen at parties, you can suddenly remember that you were just popping in for a refill and make a swift exit to a different space.
Not quite the same as chatting in the funnel at parkrun, but a habit of just chatting where you first encounter the other person and nobody being brave enough to say that you should maybe move along a bit to get out of the way.

It’s similar to people walking in groups, they’ll nearly always spread out to cover the entire width of the path. It’s this way that I learned the path I was running on today is wide enough for five people to walk side by side 🙄

The one positive of the last couple of years is that a suitably timed cough as you run towards the group results in them moving to leave a gap, where previously nobody would ever move.

Yes, and yet if there had been only two people they’d still have taken up the whole width of the path!

I had an odd situation yesterday when lapping people and a guy was running alongside someone and blocking the path forcing me on to the grass. At that point it was particularly boggy.
The other runner said to the guy to keep left to allow runners to pass. Just as I was forced on to the grass he said I am not forcing anyone on to the grass.

There were a couple of sections at Ipswich that were 1-2 people wide, the council seemed to widen them all out during lockdown. They are 3-4 wide and its one lap so no issues lapping. Combined with reduced numbers there is a lot less course congestion.
