By the way, I saw last week that anyone uploading also gets added to the roster so you need to remove them from there as well!
By the way, make sure all volunteers add their barcode to the app before starting. If not the first person they scan is taken as the uploader and you will need to remove them from the roster (this happened at Woodley Juniors last week)

Re Exeter, the core team are exploring the possibility of new routes with the council, but they say it definitely won't be in place by 5th June.
We're getting close now to the 21st May cut-off for confirming a 5th June restart England wide. My money's on a postponement.

Good to see Wetherby on the list, three laps round the football pitches, flat, grass and next to the Wharf so quite pretty. Near enough to Harrogate and generally only attracts 60-100.

Why do parkrun not allow people using barcode off their phone? I never figured out the rationale for that

"This means it also alerts HQ if the RD's phone gets used to scan barcodes, and then you get an email the next day asking why..."
99.9% of the time parkrun is without incident. I regularly use my phone to scan barcodes as it means that I am able to be useful during times of low incident but high traffic (and when there's a lot of people milling about getting scanned that's precisely where I need to be!), can drop the task at a moment's notice if something needs my attention, and most importantly, can deal with unscannable barcodes (often don't scan because of user error) which also includes the "well they let me do that at [insert event name here]" brigade.
And I get to put names to people's faces!
If I get a bollocking for scanning while RD I won't be happy.

Shame about Exeter - that was my first Devon parkrun. Torbay Velopark is the only one on the list so far in South Devon, so that will be busy, especially over the summer holiday visitor season.

The rationale for not scanning phones is that name and ICE details are printed on the barcode, so if one of your parkrunners should collapse you can furtle around in her underwear looking for her scrappy paper barcode.
Also, not owning a smartphone is more of an obstacle to participation than not having access to a printer, despite the fact that it could be an either/or option, rather than only accepting the barcode in one medium.
Originally it was because the Opticon scanners can't read barcodes, but if we're all app that rationale's balls, and therefore it was quietly dropped some time ago.
Given the nature of my town, and the location of my parkrun, I'd happily accept phones if it were allowed. There are people who find out about parkrun while looking for something to do on holiday at Europe's largest holiday park up the road, have a smartphone, but bizarrely didn't bring a laptop and portable printer on holiday!

"At the moment, looking at this from a global perspective, we need something like 4,000 scanners in order to support over 1500 events. Clearly cost is an important factor, particularly when planning for the future when we might need to replace them, and with every £10 per-unit cost increase equating to £40,000 overall the likelihood right now of upgrading our scanners so that they can scan more devices isn’t particularly appealing."
Well, that one's no longer relevant! The parkrunners themselves now provide the scanning devices.
