Without the framework document though and applying for permissions now for a 26th start date they would just be getting a blanket response of "wait and see what Boris says at the end of June". Which then pushed things back to July and then further delays in getting responses from all landowners. There would still be the need to have most events return at the same time, and I'm certain that various people would still be arguing for "it's too soon" and variations on that theme.

Nobody would be giving permission now for completely unrestricted events on the 26th June. Does London Marathon even have confirmation for the beginning of October yet? Until the restrictions are actually lifted nobody can be certain what will be lifted and its all just best guesses, which is why parkrun waited until they already met the current requirements from government to actually return before even asking.

London will have some permissions in place simply for the necesary orders to close roads etc etc. Even if they are tentative approvals.

So if they won't give permission for 'completely unrestricted events' on the 26th June, how come parkrun is getting permissions for the 5th June?
What 'restrictions' have parkrun put in place using the Framework?

The framework document is how parkrun have said they can operate in agreement with government in a "covid secure" way with various tweaks to how they operate.

That is different to saying "can we come back just like in March 2020 and we'll pretend the last year didn't happen".

I don't know what details get confirmed in the licences from RunBritain, but a quick canter through some of the licenced races in early July seems to suggest (from their websites) that at least some of them are planning a "business as usual" event without references to waved starts etc.

Would be interesting to see if EA / RB are putting covid security measures in the licences being granted.

... And the Landmarks half is not running as usual despite being a couple of months after all restrictions are due to be lifted:

llhm.co.uk

To have got that permission to go ahead before restrictions are lifted they have to assume that those restrictions will still be in place to some extent.

But none of them are 'restrictions'

The Roadmap contains restrictions (largely on people numbers)
Guidance from different sports NGBs contain restrictions (largely on people numbers)

But with LLHM, there isn't much change to 'usual'...

More control of access points, smaller waves, all stuff that events of that size typically do anyway.
The new one is face masks.

They've even managed to increase the numbers!
14,500 for this year, 2019 was 13000.

Sorry to go back a few pages, but I loved the "parkrun isn't parkrun if it changed" comment.

You obviously haven't been doing parkrun that long, because since my first one in about 2008, it's changed beyond recognition.

The first events I did you didn't need a barcode, didn't have to have registered etc etc.

Now they're even charging for t-shirts that the got sponsors to buy for them....

I don't think parkrun is parkrun unless you get a free t-shirt for having done 50 races.
