I know it’ll be months (years?) before parkrun resumes but I’m struggling to see what it could look like, particularly in densely populated areas...

I agree, Fleecy. I can't see anything restarting until the presence of CovID has been eradicated in the country. Anyway, who's up for this week's fake parkrun? fetcheveryone.com/races/fake-parkrun-4315764 I've already done mine |

I think by the time parkrun gets the green light, it will look like it looked when it stopped. I think it won't start again until things are pretty much back to normal/there's a vaccine. I think if big measures need to be put in place for it to run, then it probably should not run.

I think you’re about right RR I’ve tapered for this week’s Fake Parkrun and I’m ‘going for a time’ tomorrow |

Hoping that before we get to resuming parkrun that we have a period of going back to basics - maybe just a few friends meeting up for a social run around a park or club handicap/time trials where numbers can be controlled.

It going to be tough for parkrun HQ to get this right. They don't re-start and people complain they can go out but not parkrun. They do and people complain that too many people are gathering in one place. I have a feeling we may not parkrun again in 2020, but hope I'm wrong.

Yeah I agree, also it’s not like you can ration spaces somehow, there might be many small parkruns which could easily restart even now but something like Bushy would be impossible. It’s sad and I’m sure the organisers will be criticised whatever they do.

I wouldn't be surprised if we get parkrun back long before other races, just because the scale is so much smaller. I don't think we'll see 20,000 plus races this year. If we are allowed sub-400 public events, parkrun might appear, but it's unmanageable with solid social distancing, unless you put a mobile phone on a stick and everyone scans their own barcode.

I actually think it may be the other way round. Races can control entries and numbers attending events to a degree. parkrun have non of those controls. Of the two parkruns near me one gets c.300 a week and the other c.60. I know what would happen if the smaller event re-opened and not the bigger one... I don't envy parkrun management right now - they are in a no win situation. |

Good luck, Tuppers! I'd have to check, but I think there were less folk running my last 10k race than there were at the local parkrun the day before - and as the race was chip timed, there was less need for interaction anyway. For either of them though, it would have been nigh on impossible to socially distance throughout the entire course. |
