Yep, we would add people weeks in advance if they mailed to offer; doesn't normally happen but will do when there's a big local race - everyone wants to volunteer the day before! If it's outside this months volunteer recruiter time they'd add you in so the next month person has a head start.
Mike - I'd ask the event time why it happens - it may the that the ED doesn't realise their VC is losing people. Otherwise you'll just have to send a mail for each week.

Yep I will do both, I wondered if it was a deliberate processing arrangement. I re-sent for 23rd Feb separately just now but will chat with the volunteer coordinator tomorrow as i will be there early for pre-event setup.

57.5 Degrees of Pain
Well that was the complete opposite of recent wintry parkruns, could just about have passed for a summer day (a far northern summer day at least!).

Tommy Hughes (59) pitched up at Ormeau this morning. Took a wrong turn, still won it by a minute and a half (16:52), age grade of 94.27%.

I was volunteer coordinator this morning. I jogged along to the park with the intention of running, but we were very short of volunteers.
In the end, after sorting out the volunteers, I took on timekeeping duties.
I know I'm a miserable old so & so, but there's people who have been running there for years & they never volunteer. The run director even asked if some of the faster runners would grab a bib after they'd finished their run & do a spot of funnel managing or barcode scanning. Guess what, only one person bothered. Right, that's my moan for the day over.

I sympathise. It does always seem to be the same people who volunteer, but I suppose people have reasons for not doing so.
I've had to stand up before and ask for volunteers at the run briefing. Thankfully people have always stepped up there and then - to a round of applause from an appreciative crowd.
For us having the marshals out is the most important for safety. I wouldn't threaten to cancel the run (unless it really was unsafe to proceed) but I would certainly change things around to divert volunteer resource so that we had one scanner, one time keeper and no photos/teas/coffees. It would take a ballsy scanner to hold the fort on their own but perhaps if people were standing in a 400 person long queue, don't get quite the right time because of no backup stopwatch, and don't get a nice piece of fruit and a cup of tea at the pavilion it might make them think about signing up next week.

I wouldn't cancel either but would say it won't be timed, everyone will get 59:59.
