Thanks swittle - I'm touristing at Crosby this week. That description doesn't seem to match the website so it will be interesting to see what's what.

CumbriAndy, I was literally stretching the boundaries! When I last attended, the start was on the beach but, looking at the route on the website, it looks like the route's been reversed, with the grassy trail section first. U-turning, the prom is about 15 feet wide and generally quiet on Sat. a.m. There's a loop down onto the beach, about 150 yards based on the course I know and the sand can be quite soft in places. It's been attracting well over 100 participants.
I hope you enjoy your visit and have a great run.

I've been in the top 10 on 3 occasions (miracles do happen). I've been 5th, 5th and 5th.

Alness start is a cavalry charge, that is for sure. Not been there on a windy day.

I have 124 finishes in a higher position than my all time PB. I run at a lot of small events!

Alness start is great fun - as 57.5DoP says, a cavalry charge down a hill aiming for a gap in the trees. 😁
